Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Second-seeded Serbian Jelena Jankovic defeated fourth-seeded Russian Dinara Safina to win the $1.34 million Family Circle Cup title.

Jankovic needed one hour, 11 minutes to post a 6-2, 6-2 decision on the green clay at Family Circle Tennis Center. Safina went ahead 2-0 in the second set, but lost the final six games to drop the match.

Jankovic, who ousted former champion Venus Williams in three sets in the semifinal round on Saturday, earned her second title of the season and third of her career in eight chances.

"I had an awesome week here, especially beating Venus," said Jankovic. "In the final it was a bit of a different story because of the weather. It was really windy and tough circumstances, but I gave my best, and I'm the champion. I'm so happy I won this title. It's my first Tier I title. It's a really amazing feeling."

The ninth-ranked player in the world, Jankovic leveled her career record against Safina at 1-1 and earned $196,000 for her efforts. On Monday she will move to No. 7 in the world.

Safina, who will move from 12th to 10th in the world rankings on Monday, was seeking her sixth career title, falling to 5-4 in tournament finals. She earned $100,000 for the second-place finish.

"I'm definitely happy," said Safina. "I wouldn't have expected to reach the final. If somebody told me I was going to be in the final I would shake his hand and say 'Okay, I'll give you half of my prize money.' Sometimes it just goes your way."
