Title: Murray Top Ten Debut!

jack.hl.ng - April 13, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
Murray clinches world top-10 spot

Rising tennis star Andy Murray will be a top-10 player when the latest world rankings are issued on Monday.

The Scot, 19, moves up to 10th in the standings after Tommy Haas failed to reach the semi-finals of the US Clay Court Championships in Houston.

The German will drop out of the top 10 after suffering a 7-6 6-4 defeat to Ivo Karlovic in the last eight.

British number one Murray is currently rated the 11th best player in the world as he continues his meteoric rise.

The way they hype him and the amount of press coverage he gets you would think that he would be in the top 5 surely by now .

:D Congrats Andy! :D

And points wise he will be pretty close to the top 8! :ok:

Well he's done bloody well in the timescales. Surely that deserves credit?Less than 2 years back he wasnt; even on the map. Rather disparaging comments I'd say, in fact a rather disparaging attitude in general on here I feel. I recall lots of people back in thh BBc days saying Murray would not make the top 100 let alone the top 10, but he has done so he can't; be all that bad. Time for the critics to eat hat methinks. Anyway I'm off down the bookies to collect my winnings on my bet soon so I'm well chuffed. :D

McEnroe himself has said Murray will make the top 5 and Im sure it's only a matter of time :)

Besides Djokovic is even more hyped up than Murray, he's the future world number one don't you know  All the young guns get hyped up, Gasquet was so hyped a year or so ago.

At least Murray actually delivers.....

There are usually loads of young pretenders.. and usually only a couple of them make it to the top.

Looks like Nole and Asbo Andy could be the ones 'most likely to'. And deservedly so, as they are ones with both the ability and the workrate needed to fulfil their potential.

SW, I think that Nole isn't overhyped. Hardly anyone talked about him 6 months ago! He's just fulfilling his promise imo..

Monfils.. there was one that was totally overhyped, and I could see the plateauing of his game coming a mile off. In fact some of Tursunov's blogs included him and pretty much gave the game away about his psychological makeup.

The thing is, Murray could easily have gone the way of Monfils, but was smart enough to get himself a coach that would kick him up the backside and make him work to fulfil his potential.

I didn't say he was overhyped just more hyped than Murray both of which are hyped up but not necessarily overly so, as I said they do deliver :P Perhaps I shouldn't have used the world hyped....

But I do think in the last couple of months some people have gone a bit OTT calling him the future world number and such. And he was a bit premature himself, saying he could beat Federer. I prefer to adopt a wait and see approach with both of these. I thought they'd both get inside the top ten this year, but I had no idea when

i really dont like Djoko, for no apparent reason  mind you, i have no reason for my strong dislike of Fed either, seeing as hes in contention for GOAT  i knew what a quality player Murray would become though at SW19 2005. have some faith guys
