....And the Beaaaauuuutiful jacket!!!!
I hear the jacket was bought at a very high price at auction by an anonymous fan of South American origin who posts here under Wisdom....or something like that.
But recent details revealed that as he was short of money he tried to pay for it by exchanging all his Sampras memorabilia for the jacket but unfortunately, this came to very little money not worth “the jacket’s buttons” according to a Christies representative!

Federers website has this gem
"With his endearing personality, Roger Federer is an outstanding ambassador for his country, winning hearts around the world. And soon his picture will be accompanying letters all over the world, too. "
That's even too gushing for a Federer fan like myself!!
I thought the jacket was great...I was amazed so many thought it so naff, good for Rog. A much classier fashion statement than pirate shorts, and a much more menacing one at that :D

I thought the jacket was a cool thing too. It could be the beginning of a long tradition. No harm done certainly.

I liked the original comment and the comeback!
Nice stamp though, doesnt Fed look handsome? ;)

Burning the jacket may produce a temporary joy...but he'll have to produce a new one this year, and the year after...and quite possibly the year after that. How will one lapel cope with so many rackets of accolade?! :D

Is it just me or is that quite a simple stamp? They could have stylised and designed it a bit better? Fed deserves a bit more effort to be put in! Although it is a good photograph.

Fed is the first living Swiss to be honoured in this way.The Swiss newspaper the 'Blick' featured a supposed quote from Mirka today:'Now everyone can lick Roger!' roflmao

We give people stamps in this country for being born in to the right family....... :P

There is a Rafael Nadal statue at Madame Tussauds in Madrid.

That's better than a stamp!
Henman and Murray were given the auspicious honour of advertising Robinsons squash. From their acting abilities, they could also have been confused with a Tussauds waxwork....

:D

Well, George Best had a limited edition £5 note but only after he died.
Mind boggles on what Federer will achieve in his career and what they will do to commemorate it.

Yeah we never know. He could achieve greater things in the second part of his life as a head of State or international politician.

So many cultural icons so few stamps, how did the Swiss manage to narrow it down?
chairman - April 12, 2007 08:20 AM (GMT)
Swiss do not have any cultural icons that's how they narrowed it down.

....And Carl Gustave Jung not making it is quite surprising. He is in my view the most important of them all.

And on a slightly more philistinic note...Theodor Tobler!?
Tennisveritas - April 12, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
Hi all,
Well as often, but might be in particular in Switzerland Coins and "Bankonotes" are pointing out the most well known Swiss, at least for the Swiss themselves :P (BTW: this is the next step for FED in particular if he will manage to win the FO roflmao ). Details
HEREHave fun

Thanks TV, for another informative link. I have just come back from Nendaz (we drove in via Lausanne, so no Geneva) and have always wondered who the characters were on the notes (apart from Le Courbusier). I never knew that Borromini was Swiss - but I guess Ticino has produced a fair number of Italian Swiss like yourself (do they all have fiery tempers?).
I did not find a Federer stamp though - I did not see any cows who might beat him on Centre Court, but had a couple of fondues that might take him to 5 sets.....

Another interesting question is why Jakob Bernoulli isn't on that page, when his brother is?
