Unfortunately, Ferrero is already out of the tourney, succumbing to Martin in straight sets. I was thinking after Ferrer pulled out that Valencia was a good opportunity for his closely-named compatriot to finally break his title duck (four years now, one of those 2003 titles for JCF coming at this tourney), having already reached one clay final this year in the Latin American swing, but looks like it wasn't in the cards.
In fact there are only two seeds left, Volandri and Almagro--and they're facing each other in the QFs. If the talented Spaniard can get past the more experienced Italian (who has reached eight finals, all on clay), as he did in the same round last year, it should be a straightforward title defence for him.
