Ok here's my take, Serena is back and is working her way back up to her top level.

I think the Serena of 2007 is a smarter player, who is more willing to come into the net, she is less prone to miss sitting volleys or drop shots (although she sometimes still does), and she has better shot selection and probably a larger repretoire of shots. Also I think her first serve has improved. I think that experience is the reason for these improvements.

Saying that I think Serena in 2002 was a better package overall, purely down to her speed. She is still a step slower at the moment, and she isn't quite as fit. Plus even though she is hungry now, in 2002 she was really starving to death. She had only won one Grand Slam and was really annoyed about that, and was simply out to DESTROY everyone.

She is clearly still as great a fighter as ever, and I look forward to seeing her on the clay. Her fitness is improving all the time as is her movement; as it is she is one of the most athletic players on tour, but she can get faster. I think the clay season will be a good test of fitness and hopefully Serena will continue to work hard off the court to get quicker.

If Serena managed to get thapeak athleticism back, then, woe betide all ;)

Serve- Looks much more accurate these days, much less pacier too at times as well, goes for more placement. Still throws in the big bombs as well though.

2002- still feel her serving in 2002 was more severe and had such options on the serve. Also her second serve was so good in 02.

forehand- Much better than 2002, so much more cleaner technique and she's finishing her shot a bit better as well, completing the follow-through more. Also i feel she can construct the angles more

2007- much more imagination on the shot now.

Backhand- Still the same as ever. Reliable, great technique, gets all the hips and shoulders through the shot.

2007- better footwork around the backhand.

movement- Still far way from her 2002 movement. Still has great anticipation though and does hussle still very well.

2002- just seemed so much more deadlier on the run, and returned with more intrest off the defence.

In conclusion, i still feel her 2002 form was much more of an intimidating prospect, but i believe in time Serena could surpass that kind of form in 2007/08 and really start becoming the all court player that could dominate for years.

for me the serena now, is the ONE.

some of the shots she is now playing are just amazing. watching the thrashing of Sharapova at Miami, some of those returns were unimaginable :P

also this serena is fighting with nothing to lose, she is defending like next to nothing ranking points for 2006, and i think this drive is doing her the world. Like the match with Henin, she just bought her game sky high.

If Serena continues, i cannot see anyone who can take another Wimbledon Title from her :o :wub:

2002 was a better mover but 2007 is more tactile, like a hingis really, but not up to hingis's standard yet. A combination of the 2 would be brilliant.

2002 was better. Yes her movement was better and speed incredible.

2007 could prove to be better because of the added variety she is using as long as she gets her peak movement back which I admit will be hard.

She is looking as hungry as ever. I don't think that is an issue.

I voted 2002...Reason being,there was an element of presence about her and her attitude was eliminate everyone including her sister.Not only was she a better mover and thinker then she was also more focused.

The 2007 Serena could yet prove to be the better!Reason being is that she has nothing to lose and nothing to prove other than she is the world number 1.This makes her daring in her shot selection and it would be like water on a ducks back.
