Title: Bugger!
Description: Venus vs. Golovin

SerenaW19 - April 6, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
Venus just lost the first set 6-2.

This is where you wake up Vee!!!

Scotsguy - April 6, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Tati is playing Venus very well at the moment, hitting the ball deep and forcing the error, Venus is hitting a couple of incredible winner but really Golovin is playing very well and much the better clay court tennis.

6-2 2-0 40-15

The Dav - April 6, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
Golovin leads 6-2 3-0 :o

That's what Venus needs to do really  She needs to take control and start hitting deep herself, forcing the errors from Golovin.

SerenaW19 - April 6, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
How did you get your avator like that Dav? I noticed a few people over on WTAW have them like that...

SerenaW19 - April 6, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
Sheise 4-0 now. Difficult to see Venus coming back from this. She's just having one of her inexplicable clay days

Scotsguy - April 6, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
6-2 4-0 now :o

Someone made it for me :D There are a lot of Serena avatars in her forum :)

Venus down 2-6 0-4* :o

The Dav - April 6, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
She pulls one of the breaks back but still a long way behind...

Scotsguy - April 6, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
Vee breaks back 1-4 now, is there fight left.....

Hmmm USA vs Spain DC or Amelia Isalnd quarters????

SerenaW19 - April 6, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
Venus reminds us what a fighter she is when down, and gets one of the breaks back. She still has to hold serve here though otherwise Tati will be serving for the match

SerenaW19 - April 6, 2007 06:02 PM (GMT)
Venus has only won one point on serve in the entire second set, make that 2: 15 all on Venus' serve, ooh now 30-15

The Dav - April 6, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
She was once 2-6 0-4 down to Henin, so not over yet ;)

Scotsguy - April 6, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
Venus breaks back-completely against the run of play in that game....

Go Tati

Hey SW, do you want your current one like that? With just the pink colour?
Shouldn't take too long.

Yes please if you don't mind :D With just the pink :)

Golovin breaks 5-3, she'll serve for the match now...

Please choke Tati

Knowing my luck playing Venus will be the one time Tati doesn't choke

The Dav - April 6, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Golovin def. Venus 6-2 6-3 :o

Scotsguy - April 6, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
Golovin stuns Venus 6-2 6-3...

I did not expect that....

SerenaW19 - April 6, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
What a disappointing straight sets loss :(

Venus will have a crap seeding at the FO now :( assuming she defends most of her other clay court points. Even if she does really well at Charleston she'll still only be seeded in the 20's :(

SerenaW19 - April 6, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
On a side note Golovin now leads their head to head 2-0, both straight set wins on clay.

She needs to work on her game, the UEs are crippling her, I often see Serena change it up and play more conservatively, i.e. the Vaidisova match in Australia, Venus needs to work on doing that too...

LDF - April 6, 2007 06:27 PM (GMT)
Well done Tati! :D

I thought that she played a smart match; she was very solid from the baseline, maintaining good depth throughout and when she saw an opportunity to attack she took advantage.

Venus :(

Disappointing result, but she just made too many errors, especially off the forehand, and generally didn't seem too sure of herself on court. Her service stats weren't pretty either - I believe she only won about 40% of points on her first serve :yikes:

dl04 - April 6, 2007 06:28 PM (GMT)
crap, crap, crap, crap, crap :( :( :( :(

If i didnt dislike Tati enough before, i do now! roflmao

Venus was just OFF, her footing and rhythm were just not linking together and i just felt her movement was a little bit too eager, she was kinda flinging herself around the court rather than the little steps. shame because there were real signs of life when she broke back to 4-3. Then she put in this horrific service game

Ah well.......... she wasnt even supposed to be playing here, so i cant be that pissed about a quarter-final showing here. I just feel if she had just an ounce more timing, she could've pulled the win out.......

Impressed with Tati consistent depth though, really cut the errors out as well, especially on the backhand where the footwork can be lacking at times.

*sigh*

Yep she really needs to go back to the drawing board.

She just needs to get her game back together so she can really go for her shots, hitting the lines and not missing, like she was in 2000-2003. She's really not the same player at the moment.

Still hope springs eternal and it is still very early on in the season :)

Tati played well today it seems, on a fast court I'm sure Venus would come through though :D

I dont think we should sign her tennis obituary yet

Her technique isnt looking that bad at all really, it just seems to be stringing the points along enough to cause enough damage on clay. On grass you could see how she can plough through Golovin, but on this surface that extra ball comes back and its just difficult for Venus to adjust sometimes. Just needs more matches on clay, i always feel venus plays better on red clay anyway..................

Anyway its not the worst clay-court match i've seen her play. Look for 2005 third round
