SuperBRAT - April 4, 2007 02:49 PM (GMT)
As the lunar conspiracy issue has caused quite a stir I thought I'd post a few appropraite songs :D Feel free to add songs on a space theme or that would be relevant to the moon landings conspiracy, just for fun :D

Man on the Moon - REM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkSKOTVeIQ0
Great song, and it's gotta be the one.

Fly Me to the Moon - the one and only Frank Sinatra
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rAsoLm1Ges
Love this song, love Sinatra

Moon Shadow (well there a few shadows issues ) - the highly underrated and wonderful Cat Stevens aka Yousef Islam.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGNxKnLmOH4

Space Man - Babylon Zoo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_9MI2ymN6s
I own this! Great tune

Space Cowboy (geddit - cowboys are con men :D )- Jamiroquai
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3udrLmxijOE
Love Jam'quai, very funky. :)

Apollo Four Forty - Lost In Space/Astral America
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiZqmDXYeWk

Everyone's Gone to the Moon - Johnathon King
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prxo0KKFIVc
Hate this but seemed approprite.

And of course ......

Space Oddity - David Bowie, fab tune :D

http://www.youtube.com/wa

If you ask me, Armstrong did not land on the moon, Bowie did instead. ;)

The Waterboys is the one I meant to put in but forgot, very apropriate. One of my faves that is, esp after a few :D Btw do you remember Fisherman's Blues by the Waterboys? I heard that this weekend - lovely song.

Moon Rover is a beautiful song, I love it by Sinatra, it almost make sme cry, sad old sentimental git that I am. :D

The Killing Mon- excellent track isn;t it? One of the best and most unique bands of the 80s Echo are. Do you remember Do It Clean, The Cutter?

yeah great tune, although not sure how relevant it is to this thread :P

SuperBRAT - April 5, 2007 01:38 PM (GMT)
Well it was kinda relevant. Anyway Liam you gotta love this tune -

Out of Space by Prodigy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7edztkuz5o

Great band they are, seems that they put a new twist on dance music and one of the few acts of that genre that had lots of hits. Very punky, I think they show that when Brits do this stuff they do it best. :D Mental video as always. :D Take the break to another dimension as it were! roflmao

I also loved 'No Good (Start the Dance)'

"Don't no good for me, I don't need nobody, don't need no-one that's no good for me"

Grammatically shocking of course, but it kicks ass.. :D

Yip. remember Fisherman's blues, and the Bunnymen songs.. I agree, in retrespect probably one of the best alternative bands of the 80s, one that I still listen to regularly!

I remember Seven Seas on TOTP with teh band dressed as lobsters, fish.. and the audience waving cardboard 'waves' during the song.. just how it should be,. :ok:

Hey diddle diddle,
the cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon,
The little dog laughed to see such fun,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Agreed.. I really like her singing on this..

She got dubbed out of My Fair Lady though, didn't she.. :(

I think that she was a victim of the studio system with that one though.. it was a travesty that Julie Andrews didn't get the film role.. Audrey got a lot of flak for that, including being the only main start not to win an oscar for that film, and Julie Andrews winning one instead.. can't remember if it was for the Sound of Music or Mary Poppins..

Mary Poppins I think, that tore me so much, I really thought that was Audrey's Oscar, of course, her not singing somewhat dented her case for one. But I think she could've sung.

I think the reason Julie couldn't do it was that she was filming Mary Poppins but then the studio still didn't want Audrey to sing.

Stupid studio politics

barrystar - April 18, 2007 07:31 PM (GMT)
Andrews was nominated for best actress in a leading role in My Fair Lady but did not win, and she won an Oscar for Mary Poppins.

Audrey got her Oscar for Roman Holiday

Roman Holiday is my favourite Audrey Hepburn film  I have a photo of her with her award, whilst still in her 'Gigi' makeup (she'd rushed from the show to be at the awards..)

SW, re: the Oscars snub, i'd read that during the oswcars ceremony that year, there were pointed references to the fact that Audrey got the role and Julie Andrews didn't.. I think that one of those was made by Julie in her acceptance speech or something! :o

Do you mean Hepburn instead of Andrews? Because I don't think she even got got nominated for My Fair Lady...or was that Breakfast at Tiffany's

Anyway I knew Andrews got hers for Mary Poppins that year, did she get one for the Sound of Music as well?
