I thought the title will make those people dosing off stay awake.

2 - 1 to ljubo

Wise_Analyst - March 30, 2007 11:18 PM (GMT)
I'm having trouble sleeping - thank god Ljubicic is playing! :phew:

Should be snoozing in no time.

Canas having trouble reading the mundane one's serve so far. To be fair, this is impressive from Ljubicic though; who else is still prospering on the ATP at the age of 1000?

chairman - March 30, 2007 11:32 PM (GMT)
3-3 on serve
Incredible canas just saves 3 break point

Wise_Analyst - March 30, 2007 11:37 PM (GMT)
If Canas beats Federer, Robredo and Ljubicic in a row, I'll adopt him as a sentimental favourite. What a legend.

4-3 now, Ljub only lost one point on serve. Expect Canas to pounce in the first set tiebreak and cruise to victory.

chairman - March 30, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
5 - 6 and Canas breaks.

chairman - March 30, 2007 11:58 PM (GMT)
Canas takes the first set 7 - 5.

Wise_Analyst - March 30, 2007 11:59 PM (GMT)
Did you see that break chairman? Canas really showed Ljubicic who's boss. On the acual break point, Ljubicic mishit a volley (he does that a lot) and it turned into a lob, but Canas ran back and managed to hit a forehand down the line on the turn. Sensational stuff.

Canas scraps it out to hold serve and take the opening set 7-5. The majority of the baseline rallies are now starting to favour the Argentine, leaving the Croat with nothing but his serve.

Wise_Analyst - March 31, 2007 12:36 AM (GMT)
Canas breaks and consolidates. 4-2 now, and it seems he's heading for victory.

Think I'm gonna be cheering for this guy in the final tomorrow - I've suddenly become a big fan

0/7 break points won for Ljubicic and 2/2 for Canas tells the story so far.

chairman - March 31, 2007 12:38 AM (GMT)
Yes I did see that wise. This fella is just excellent.

Now Canas has broken for the second time in the 2nd set.

I cant believe the sort of tennis we have been missing for the last 2 years.

Wise_Analyst - March 31, 2007 12:41 AM (GMT)
It's amazing that this guy can come back and cut through the top 10 like a knife through hot butter. Remember that at his peak, he was a journeyman in the Sampras era. Ljubicic bottles it completely like the hopeless waste of space that he is, and Canas storms through 7-5, 6-2 to face Djokovic. Should be a classic. :ok:

Vamos!!!

Excellent point there, on the cutting of the top ten like a knife.and most importantly routinely dispatching the "greatest of all time" with ease. This is certainly further proof of how weak this era.

Tenez - March 31, 2007 09:48 AM (GMT)
The same could be said of Muster. A promising player young but never a top contender under Mc and Lendl supremacy, then gets injured comes back and becomes number 1 under Sampras reign.

Do you want me to list the names of all journey men that reached a TMS final in the 90s?

Tenez... roflmao Wise is so loco that he continue to believe in a golden age during the 90...For me one name is enough: The ultimate master of journeyman was able to reach two Slams final during the "Lions era" (Wise definition of the '90) roflmao roflmao:

Mr. (no weapons no ideas why I am in a court) Cédric Pioline...Cedric is a nice guy on a personal level but from a pure Tennis perspective is the ultimate proof that the Lions era Theory is just wrong...How this guy was able to manage two final in a GS event it is just beyond me...Anyway...Wise shut up and review your books of Tennis history... roflmao

BTW: I really hope Djoko will be able to finish his work and win Miami: It will be difficult but he has the weapons to win against a great defender like Canas, i.e. the way in which he was able to pass Rafa..

Let's hope that at the end will be the quality and not the quantity that win.

Wise If there is a lesson to point forward with the Canas come back this is the following: You can reach great results if you are basically a good player (and Canas is a good player) AND IN PARTICULAR IF your motivation is at the top.

Compare the Canas come back with the Guga one this season:

Until now no results and this simply Because GUGA IS NOT HUNGRY, i.e. he came back but he does not care 100% really because he has already reach great results (3 RG Titles for a clay court specialist like him it is just all you can dream for)...

Canas at the contrary is HUNGRY...Nothing more nothing less...So Wise, your generalisation about the present ATP ranking this is just PATHETIC (see the example above with Muster provided by Tenez & my consideration taking as example Pioline).

Excellent post, TV!

Also, what about Mal Washington?? Mediocrity personified making it to a Wimbledon final!!

Surely the Lions of the 90s ™ must have hung their heads in shame at this travesty?

Any era offering up Pioline and Washington cannot be considered the strongest.

Sara Excellent post as well roflmao roflmao ...You are right.. roflmao roflmao

I remember this final only because in the other side of the net there was Krajicek a very good player who did not have a lot of chance unfortunately...

BTW: our best Swiss Hero was Marc Rosset roflmao roflmao ...This guy was so funny: This was indeed a serve machine: if the serve was not up the X day forgot about the match...But he was a very kind man with Roger: He helped him a lot during the first years in the ATP tour so...But, nevertheless, from a Tennis perspective, Rosset was just roflmao

All I can say is, it refreshing to see a final of excellent calibre that does not included roger or rafa.

SaraLess - March 31, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
that's a very fair point, Chairman. I am disappointed that Rog and Rafa didn't make it; but it certainly looks to be an interesting final-and it mixes things up for the looming GS.

Or Rusedski in US open final

Scotsguy - March 31, 2007 08:10 PM (GMT)
This was a very unfair match on Ljubo, he was the better player thoughout the firt set, Canas hit a few lucky points at 5-5 (Believ me he didnb't raise his game, 1 point came from a mishit that the wind caught, and another of his came from a let cord.)

However if he had beaten 2 players in a row that are better players than him, it seemed likely he could do it a third time.

On that point I fully agree with you Chairman...My God is the second time in a short period I agree with you I definitely need to see my Doctor (I am joking ;) )...I am happy as well to see a (hopefully) great final with very good players and both of them are not the usual suspects. :) ..

BTW: I really hope that the youngest among the two will be able to win..Go Djoko  for your first title of a major : More I am watching this guy more I am convince to face a very good player with a great 2 hands BH a great serve and a great view of the game...With a little bit more of experience some adjustment of his pace on the FH side he can definitely be right there at the top...We will see

 see you this evening then..I hoep I can manageto follow live :D
