Title: Sharapova vs S.Williams
Description: Grudge Match

Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
About to begin...

This would already have been a grudge match due to the AO..but throw in the fact this is near where both live (apparently) and the fact Big Sis was beaten by Maria.....

chairman - March 27, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
You're early!!!

Your early!!!

but it's up on the scoreboard and i was just allowing for some pre-match banter....

Perhaps a little early

Gav - March 27, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
Ok folks when does it start? It will be interesting to see how this match goes. I am really after a final between Justine Henin and Serena Williams to be honest, as they are the best two players on the tour in my opinion. But I always have a real soft spot for Maria..... So I really am stuck for who I want to win!

Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
Both players taken to deuce but both hold :D

Gav - March 27, 2007 05:48 PM (GMT)
There's my answer to when it starts then!

The Dav - March 27, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Come on Serena :D

Gav - March 27, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
Maria will have to serve better than I heard she did the other night to stop Serena from battering her I reckon.

Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
Oh dear

Serena breaks 3-1.......

I think I cursed Maria with my previous post about her serve.

Gav - March 27, 2007 06:04 PM (GMT)
Errrrr..... 6-1 first set to Serena! Aussie Open final again or can Maria shake it up and learn how to serve again in the second set?

jack.hl.ng - March 27, 2007 06:04 PM (GMT)
SERENA to win! nothing better than a bit of revenge match for her sister!

WHOOP! 6-1
come on serena!

hey, can i ask, what was said at Serena yesterday, i heard stories about racism coming from the crowd, is that true? anyone with anymore info on that?

Manzikert - March 27, 2007 06:06 PM (GMT)
Serena takes the first set 6-1. This is all familiar somehow....

The scoreline is actually a bit unfair to Sharapova, who is serving relatively well (at least given recent form), hitting some nice winners and hanging in where she can. But Serena once again is on the warpath. The conditions are windier, so some of her shots weren't finding the lines, but she's adjusted and is playing her groundstrokes more smartly. And her own service games have been impeccable.

Serena has still got another set ahead of her but if she maintains this level she's in a very good position.

The Dav - March 27, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
Serena

Don't let up!

The thread got a little out of hand and the title could have been worded a lot better but here is a thread on it...

Where are you all watching this??

Not only can I not watch any matches, I can't get the live scores from Miami either, so I am one frustrated elderly grump :yikes:

I found I couldn't get the live scores either but then found this link to work.

It's the live stats rather than the live score page....has the scores on it though!

jack.hl.ng - March 27, 2007 06:12 PM (GMT)
thanks very much Gav :)

sort of new here ^^;; was referred by the brilliant Scotsguy !

out of interest, is anyones ATP/WTA live scoring system working? or is it just me?

Wise_Analyst - March 27, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
Serena dishes out a double breadstick  Gotta feel a bit sorry for Sharapova.

Gav - March 27, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
I seemed to lose Centre Court and the scoreboard there for a bit, but the scoreboard I am using no longer has the match up and last I saw it was Serena leading 6-1 4-1 so I think she obliterated Maria again....

....and there is my answer! Good god that's pretty incredible to do that twice since her comeback!

Let's hope her and Henin meet in the final to see how Henin copes with her.

jack.hl.ng - March 27, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
haha yeah 6-1 6-1

WOO go serena! even better than the AO final score! WHOOP :D

Manzikert - March 27, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
Well, Serena had precious little room for improvement on her AO final scoreline, but she manages it, dealing the unfortunate Sharapova a merciless 6-1, 6-1 defeat.

There's really little room for commentary. Everything we saw from her in Melbourne was brought out again. Sharapova could either miss a first serve by going for a lot, or play it safe and watch the ball fly past her as a crunching return winner. You can't really fault her the 8 DFs. (Unintentional pun--almost.)

Vaidisova has had an easy path through the draw thus far, which might actually be a disservice to her if she faces a Serena at or near the same level she played today and isn't match-tough enough to respond. But she can draw comfort from the fact that Serena seems to let up on her game a bit when she's not facing her Wimbledon conqueror on the other side of the net. B)

scolios - March 27, 2007 06:38 PM (GMT)
Thanks Gav :D

My live scores (and yours too, presumably) are now working and I see that Serena PULVERISED Maria!

Bad luck, Maria.

But :yahoo: :yahoo: Serena!!

Serena Williams is the best player in the world no doubt. I'm running out of superlatives for her i really am. Her serve is fantastic, so varied be it the kicker out-wide or the flat serve down the middle, its untouchable, the best serve in WTA history.

Serena's return so dominating as well, those crunching forehands where she just leans effortlessy into the shot, so controlled and uber-powerful. Plus serena looks in terrfic physical shape, the best i've seen her for so long. So great to see :D

Maria  Back to the drawing board. no real conviction in her shots atm, little confidence and her serve is collapsing by the match. Needs repairing quickly, or players will overtake her so fast...........

Watch out everyone at wimbledon, if serena is like this. frighteningly flawless

Federer-Williams - March 27, 2007 06:41 PM (GMT)
Watched it live. To be Honest serena was cruising this time (unlike the AO when she was on fire), she played well of course but as Joe durie said she had gears left in her.

Sharapova really needs to do something about that serve. It got much worse in teh 2nd set.

The Dav - March 27, 2007 06:46 PM (GMT)
Serena!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: What an amazing performance, I can't wait to download it, she IS the greatest player in the world, no doubt!

Maria, well this is really tough for her, but what can you say, Serena is just better, that's all it comes down to, she'll bounce back though, she's so tough mentally :ok:

I'm glad Lindsay's perfect score is still in tact though roflmao

yep and she was playing way in herself. i reckon its serena vs JH final

ObL!v!0N - March 27, 2007 07:04 PM (GMT)
wow, serena creamed her again. she really means business this year. just think, if she decided to play more, she would be no.1 hands down.

petalp - March 27, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
AO clearly not a one-off.. Serena looking like she could own Sharpie at this rate.. :o

Maria.. needs to learn a plan 'B', in the same way that A-Rod is trying to do against Fed.

Serena.. sensational stuff. She is making the WTA tour look a little silly by just turning up and caning the world number 2 at will almost.. but then Fed does that on the ATP side sometimes too.. B)

Agreed with all who said that a JHH v Serena final would be their ideal contest.. :)

Hang on, I know Justine is only 5"4 but I am sure you can still see her. Beating Pova is a cake walk for anyone but Venus of late.

chokapova - March 27, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
Well done to Serena for beating The Cheat once again! :D roflmao   :ok: :yahoo:

Serena is rather scary when she is in the mood she was in today! But thats why we love her

Tenez - March 27, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
Such a crushing victory for Serena. One sided scores like that are often the case when games are very similar but one is simply a bit better than the other one. No answer from Sharapova against Serena and it is likely to be someting similar next time around.

SerenaW19 - March 29, 2007 09:29 AM (GMT)
Serena

Just awesome stuff, she's so good :D Only one match left before the final for both, here's hoping they make it. :yahoo:
