Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
DAMNIT!!!! ANDY Stop losing the big points!!!

Pebs - March 27, 2007 03:55 PM (GMT)
hmmm....
like you say, can be a slow starter SG - lets hope for the best eh?
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
Easily the worst match I've seen from Murray all year. Even the one against Djokovic was stronger. Very disappointing but he can't expect to just show up and automatically advance into the QFs on the basis of ranking.
Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)

Andy broken 2-3...........
For the third game he loses it from 30-30
*Officially worried....
odietamo - March 27, 2007 03:59 PM (GMT)
sh*t was Murray just broken?!
Is anyone watching the match?
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
Murray can't find the lines. His shot selection is lacklustre at best, his execution worse, and he's generally playing as though he played a five-set match last night. He's created opportunities in the second set, but twice now he's let slip a 0-30 lead without making another point.
It's all part of the pattern of suddenly flagging when he gets into the business end of tourneys. He needs to find a way to resolve that and soon.
SaraLess - March 27, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
Is anyone watching? Is Mathieu playing well/Murray badly/choking/injuries....?
I'm not especially a Murray fan, but I am shocked-I'd thought he would walk this, especially with his current run of form
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:09 PM (GMT)
I'd say it's 70% Murray playing poorly, but exacerbated by the fact that Mathieu, though making the occasional sloppy error, is otherwise seeing the ball well and putting away winners when he sees openings.
A very crucial hold from Murray just now, but he still trails a break 3-4. He can still stage a comeback--he's looking more determined and aware of the danger of his situation--but time is running out.
Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 04:13 PM (GMT)
For the third time this set Murray goes 0-30 up on PHMs serve
15-30-If it goes back to 30-30 Andy....
FFS ANDY
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:14 PM (GMT)
Yet again .. from 0-30 to 40-30 by missing very makeable shots. Some unfortunate deja vu in three of Mathieu's service games now.
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
And now a ludicrous drop shot that hits the middle of the net to throw away another opening for a break. Murray will only have one other attempt, assuming he even holds now.
Mo aka Mz O'Hara - March 27, 2007 04:17 PM (GMT)
No no no,, this is not how the page should read. :( :(
C'mon Murrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
SG I have to leave for home at 5.30....so please keep cheering on for me. :) (if the match isn't over by then of course) :o :( :( :(
Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
Andy saves a Match Point at 30-40 to hold
But now it's crunch time, PHM to serve for the match
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:20 PM (GMT)
From 30-40, match point for Mathieu, Murray digs deep to come up with two huge serves and then some gutsy serve and volley to clinch the hold.
But Mathieu is still serving for the match at 6-2, 5-4. Murray will be hoping for a little choke from the Frenchman to help him out.
odietamo - March 27, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
And PHM's serving for the match
Well our only slim hope lies in the fsct that it's Mathieu Murray's playing - we know what he's like when it comes to closing out...another choke would be welcome now!
Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSS
Murray saves another MP, this time on PHMs serve
BUT HE BREAKS BACK!!!!
NOW HOLD ANDY!!!!!
(and yes i did deliberately use those capitals)
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)
Just. Goodness. Complete drama on a late call in the corner from a Mathieu shot (it was wide however) for advantage Murray, an amazing get to keep a tense rally alive, and Murray gets the break.
Absolute must hold now to profit from his new lease on life.
0-15 on a killer winner from Mathieu. Not a good start.
Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
Murray holds 6-5......
Can you think what will be going through PHMs mind as he sits through the change over.....is he already imagining the headlines???
Let's hope so...and lets hope the headlines read Magic Murray masters Mathieu from MP down
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
Murray has stepped up a gear--finally! With some bold play and clutch serving, he holds for 6-5 to at least guarantee a tiebreaker.
Gilbert must be spawning an ulcer right now.
Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
PHM DFs to give Murray 2 set points
SET TO MURRAY¬!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Now BAGEL him Andy
Please don't mess up after that!!!
Manzikert-did PHM choke or did Andy grit it out?? Or was it both?
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:38 PM (GMT)
Mathieu falters to throw in a double for 15-40, but it's Murray's absolutely herculean defence in a rally and a stunning backhand up the line that earns him a third set 2-6, 7-5.
What a comeback from the precipice, with two MPs saved in two different games.
Wise_Analyst - March 27, 2007 04:42 PM (GMT)
Mathieu obviously had a point to prove there: whatever James Blake can do, he can do better. That was an outrageous choke which will deservedly see him lose the match.
For all Murray's shortcomings which were visible during that first set, we also should give the Frenchman some credit. He's been on fine form so far this tournament, and continued it there. Not that it's going to help him much now though...
wordsaretheanswer - March 27, 2007 04:42 PM (GMT)
Murray's defence on that set point of his was incredible, nice to see him finish off the point with that flattened backhand of his.
For me that's one of his signature shots. I've only been watching since 5-2 in the opening set and that was the shot that was consistently letting him down.
He seemed to get it together from 4-2 down in the second and since then there's been no looking back. If he can keep his error count down for the final set he could bag a famous victory, considering the match points against in that second set.
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:42 PM (GMT)
Some aggressive play and two solid aces from Murray for an authoritative start to the deciding set 1-0.
Mathieu is slightly deflated, but also frustrated and still quite dangerous.
Pebs - March 27, 2007 04:43 PM (GMT)
kay, thats the kids fed, whats happening with the match?
Scotsguy - March 27, 2007 04:47 PM (GMT)
Murray 2-0 up in the third
Cannot believe he saved those Match Points....I was tearing my hair out....
Manzikert - March 27, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
Murray is clearly back in charge now (for the first time since 2-love in the first set!), and the momentum shift is complete as he breaks decisively to 15 to go up 2-0 love.
40-30 on his serve. He'd do well to avoid a deuce to keep Mathieu on the run.
