Title: MotoGP New Season
Mathemagician - March 27, 2007 11:50 AM (GMT)
Pretty much as expected so far for the new MotoGP season...Hayden struggling, and the guys who used to ride in the smaller classes are finding it easier. The Ducati is FAST...but let's face it, you can trust Stoner to throw it down the track at least a few times this season, and the Yamaha I think will only get faster. People seem to underrate Rossi (and for that matter, Edwards) as development riders.
Credit to Stoner tho, I didn't expect him to come from where he did and finish so strong. Personally I don't think he's got the mental strength to stay with it throughout the season, and for that matter I don't think Pedrosa has, either. I think Rossi really gave Pedrosa something to think about in Jerez...you don't normally see him nail a race from start to finish, but he left Pedrosa for dead.
IMO Hayden's chances of defending his title are next to nothing. Nobody gave him much chance at the start, with good reason. Personally it doesn't bother me much, he's turned into far too much of a percentage rider for me, and I think racing's about winning races.
So...Rossi, for me.

Rossi is back, and what has happened to Ducati?Shocker :yikes:
Lorenzo proving how stupid and brave these guys are by riding with bad ankles.
Still the thrills in MOTO GP for me personally are more of an adrenaline rush than F1.

a friend of mine is really in to the Moto GP and i seem to manage to coincide my trips to visit him with a race, so i'm slowly learning a little bit about this. He really dislikes Casey Stoner, so is currently thrilled by his lack of success this season. I've always been a fan of Rossi, so I'm really pleased he won in France - especially as I watched the opening in Qatar where he came fifth :(
and i prefer watching this to watching F1 without a doubt

It appears more exciting in a way as there is more overtaking, but there is something more outstanding about big old F1 cars getting it on that does it more for me.
Having said that I was a big fan as a youngster as my dad was a biker and I went to see the world motorcycle championships (forerunner to the Moto GP Series) at Donington. Those were the days when I followed it closely with Rainey and Schwantz in the 500's then being eclipsed by Doohan, who for me is still just about the greatest ahead of Rossi.

I find there's something more impressive about the big powerful bikes than the big powerful cars  I also think the fact that there is more overtaking makes it much more interesting for me - let's put it like this, i can sit and watch a motoGP race in it's entirety. I'll watch the beginning and end of an F1 race - the rest of it seems so dull to me - but that's obviously just a personal preference

I must say I am finding it more and more difficult to watch Formula 1 races from start to finish. Not because of the racing, but because I feel as if James Allen is always about to make a marriage proposal to Lewis Hamilton on live TV.

:lmaao:
it's a shame how commentators can sometimes spoil an event i find. I watched the Qatar motoGP on eurosport i think and the commentators there had me in hysterics. But i used to watched the Tour De France on Eurosport with the sound down 'cos their commentator (David Duffield) was so exceptionally annoying he made me want to have a Van Gogh moment and chop my ears off.......

Although I would concede that the best machinery always wins in both sports, there is still more of a hint of the unexpected in MOTO GP.
The danger is there, les electronic aids, and a bike remains more stock than a car ever could be.
When I watched F1 in as a kid in the 70's&80's the cars were far more demanding to drive, and more skill was with the driver, but that's progress for you, although the sport is worse off for it.
