Title: How long can helium stay in a balloon for???
trisco - March 25, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
Anyone know how long helium can stay in a balloon for?? Noticed something large and yellow down the bottom of my garden earlier so I went to look and it is a helium filled balloon on a string that had got snagged on a branch. It has a

logo on it... which is a clothing chain that hasn't operated in Britain since the year 2000.... and this ballon has the year 1988 on it! Surely helium can't stay in that long roflmao

It may have drifted from continental Europe - we still have C&A over here trisc
aah - didn't see the 1988 bit
Perhaps it fell through a worm hole in the space-time continuum
here you go:
how long ?

the balloon hun :)
unless you mean a worm hole - that is a little hole in the folds of fabric from which time and space are woven. Falling through the worm hole allows an object to travel vast distances in space or time without all that tedious mucking around in hyperspace or time machines..

Helium is such a small molecule it will escape from anything .
The other thing is, how long does it take for the rubber to degrade ?
Gosh I love these scientific -explanation type threads :)
