Title: Pop is dead :(
liam_valid - March 22, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
I was washing up the other night with the radio on, and J-los 'play' was played so i had a little boogie while i was scrubbing. I then realised i never do that anymore because the radio just seems to play indie music all the time, or hardcore dance tunes that you need to be out clubbing to appreciate. Or even worse Westlife  Bring back Lionel Vinyl thats all i can say :)

Westlife shoudl be shot, after slow torture first ... maybe they should be forced to listen to their own records, followed by Girls Aloud and Robbie Williams, that woudl kill them.
I'm not so sure pop is dead, in fact I hear far to much crappy lightweight pop on the radio like the Sugarbabes who get right on my wick. I knwo more inide is around though, I like indie but prefer th eold stuff. Try listening to Radio 2 as I do, they play plenty of oldies and I find myself singing and dancing along quite frequently. Sadly though, they do seem to play Westlife.
Scotsguy - March 22, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
I love listening to radio 1 atm, they play really good music and Zane Lowe is always good for lesser known bands..
But for all those who say pop is dead just look at our eurovision song contest entry.... :yikes: and people wonder why it died.....
Pebs - March 22, 2007 06:28 PM (GMT)
I rarely have a clue whats being played at the moment anyway - I tend to listen to cds in the car and at home - cant remember last time listened to the radio.
If I want to return to pop - I have a night out at the local 80s club!

I like Virgin Radio. We have a music impasse in my family - my wife likes Sacha Distel and similar crooners...

Sacha Distel, OMG I remember him. :yikes: I liek good old crooners, but he is just too cheesy for me. Slasha Disgrace as my dad used to call him. And I cant; stand Julio Igreasyarse either roflmao

I was thinking of saying exactly this after reading Liam's initial post. Pop isn't dead, it's all still there. It's not my cup of tea though.

I always tend to have the radio on in the background, unfortunately Hit Radio FFH (ef ef Haaa) have a limited play list and still play James Blunt!
Did you know there are 2 versions of his song Beautiful? In one he sings 'and I was flying high' and in the other he sings 'and I was *bleep*ing high'
I could never work that out..
WimbledonAce - March 22, 2007 08:26 PM (GMT)
Leave Westlife alone!!! They are fun :yahoo: At least they sing happy songs rather than some of these bands who insist on trying to depress us even more  Can't wait to see them on Sunday!! Yippee!!!!!

Sorry WA, I know we all have our own tastes and we enjoy what we enjoy, but how the hell Westlife are happy is beyond me. Their songs are slow are drab and they mainly do covers

He annoys me, and George being the kind of person that he is call shim something else, it rhymes with Blunt  roflmao

Mee too. And I think that what used to be indie is now the new pop, maybe.... :D I mean I find myself singing along to Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol - they are considered indie but IMO very poppy and bland. I kind fo hate myself for liking that song, it isnt; all that really but I guess that is the nature of pop.
Anyway on pop, surely the Scissor Sisters are pop? Very retro and 70s so you can listen to them. I kind of question my music taste when I sing along to I Dont; Fell Like Dancin'. it is almost a carbon copy of some not great 70s disco tune, but I do love it for fun. :D I'd be driven insane if I listened to them all day but they are a good pop band so pop addicts must be happy as they are always on the radio. :) Soem of their songs sound like Elton John in the 70s to me, especialyl Take Your Mama, which I enjoy too.
Scotsguy - March 23, 2007 12:36 PM (GMT)
Well it has become rhyming slang to call somebody a james blunt :o
trisco - March 23, 2007 12:40 PM (GMT)
I'm starting to listen to new bands again which is good as I used to be quite a music buff but then slowly turned to the darkside of throw away cheesy pop... which ain't all bad but not much to it really.
(Although I will shamefully admit to having Sugababes V Girls Aloud: Wlak This Way on my phone MP3 player at the mo... And I actually quite like it as covers go.. although I know I will be in the minority here! lol
A good band I have just stumbled across who are probably already massive is Just Jack (I think they are a band ) song - Starz in their eyes... great song. :D

Oh no that "Walk this Way" Song is the worse cover since All Saints murdered "Under The Bridge".
To be honest though the original by Aerosmith was average, it got much better when they did it again with RUN D.M.C and Steve Tyler's voice had changed for the better....

It's awful....why it got to number 1 is only because it's for comic relief-qwhich fair enough is a worthy cause but I reckon it would have made money if it was possible to download a silent version

Ha ha, now now I like some pop that is about Scissor Sisters ain't bad at all.
I'm playing a bit of Devil's Advocate, but in my opinion the amoutn of p( l )op in the charts outweighs Indie.
Scotsguy - March 23, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
It also depends on what you class as indie......
Such as I would't really count razorlight, kaiser chiefs etc. as indie
Bands such as the cold war kids, the gossip, arcade fire are more indie and tbh they don't feature so heavil in the charts....
trisco - March 23, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't really class myself as a pop lover really.. well not predominantly.. I do listen to some obscure stuff.. Bens Folds Five etc but old stuff, don't even know if they are still going.
While I mentioned Scooch I HAVE to say I am not a fan of them or THAT type of "music"... I need to stress that.
That guy, what's his name out of "Dollar" won't ever give up it seems on making poo poo music.
EDIT: *Ooops edited my profanities*
