Mauresmo pulls out of Miami event

Mauresmo will slip one place down the rankings on Monday
World number three Amelie Mauresmo has withdrawn from the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, which starts on Wednesday.
The Frenchwoman will be out for a month after having surgery to remove her appendix on Sunday.

Mauresmo, who is set to drop to four in the world rankings on Monday, has not played since 24 February after choosing to rest ahead of Miami.

Her last match was a 6-4 7-5 defeat by Belgian Justin Henin in the final of the Dubai Open.

At least it isnt a bad injury, the appendix isn't anything too serious! i don't think

Hopefully she will be back to her best to win Roland Garros :ok:

It's a risky move which I would assume Mauresmo made with good reason. She's got semi points from Miami, a not inconsiderable amount of points which will drop off completely now. She is still solid Top 5 at least through Wimbledon, but she should be shoring up her position so that everything doesn't hinge on a repeat title there.

Nevertheless I hope she is fit and ready for the clay season, where she can play some catch up. She only played Berlin last year (another Tier I semi to defend however) and otherwise is free to rack up points until RG, especially with her # of tourneys played dropping to 15 now. (It's interesting that four of the Top 5 are at 15 or less--imagine if they kept a full schedule.).
