Title: Hantuchova -v- Kuznetsova (IW Final)

Queen Justine - March 17, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
Would love to see Daniela get this one.

She's leading 2-0 in the first set :D

Where Kuzzy gets the energy from after fighting back on her last two matches I don't know. She's as strong as an ox :yikes:

Congratulations to Hantuchova on a brilliant win, lifting the trophy in Indian Wells for the second time on the back of a convincing straight sets victory 6-3, 6-4 over Kuznetsova. She joins an elite group of women in having won this title twice, an illustrious roll call including the likes of Navratilova, Graf, Davenport, and Serena Williams.

Hantuchova was simply rock solid from start to finish, and betrayed no trace of nerves even when serving for the first set and then the championship. She peaked at the right time, turning in her best performance of the week against a somewhat sub-par but still dangerous Kuznetsova. There were some riveting rallies and good shotmaking from both women, but it was Hantuchova who excelled in all departments on the day, ending with a tally of winners double her UEs and a 67% first serve percentage. (Kuznetsova also did very well in the service department, but all it took in the end was one shaky game in each set.)

Well done to Kuznetsova, regardless, on reaching the final as well as a career-high ranking of No 3. I hope she manages to take some momentum going into what will be a very tough title defence in Miami.

Oh, and for the seemingly many Davenport admirers on the board, I should add that Lindsay turned up in the commentary booth for the second set in the Stateside coverage. She provided some incisive analysis (having played both finalists herself within a span of less than two years ago), and in particular she played well off of Mary Joe Fernandez in making good observations, each women of course having won IW twice. She had a characteristic glow about her and in general it seemed retirement is agreeing very well with her.

I heard that Lindsay was commentating, she got rave reviews from all who heard her

It's so annoying that she wasn't there, she would have won the title with ease this year  She had to play Kim and Justine who were in awesome form at the time

Well done Dani :D

Anyway back to the actual winner( Linds always steals the show roflmao )

Such a good, confident peformance by the Slovakian. Her timing at stages in the match was phenomonal, just wonderful ball-striking allied with such seemingly good footwork too, The intricate steps around the ball, spot on today from Daniela. Also, her net-play, so well-timed in her net approaches and she has such soft hands around net, really a joy to see her up there. Pretty much an accomplished peformance from Daniela, serve was well-placed, moving so well, and just keeping so positive :D

Kuzy played not bad at all, but could never move Daniela around effectively enough to start dictating. A bit undecisive sometimes with her groundstrokes too, played into Daniela's hands a bit when constructing the angles, but really for the most part Daniela just outplaying the Russian.

Well done Daniela :D

What will miami bring ;)

Bravo Dani!!!!

I defended Dani several times on the beeb board (it got quite nasty at times! :yikes: ). I always thought that technically she had it in her to beat other players. It's the issue of playing authoritative tennis that was always more tricky.

Anyway, this is one in the eye for the detractors that I fought with on the beeb board! :P

A great win for her.. :yahoo: and hopefully a sign of more good things to come for her too
