Dinky Jo - March 14, 2007 07:42 PM (GMT)
This match should be starting soon...... :)

should be soon - the women's match finished about 5 mins ago......
drakey01 - March 14, 2007 07:48 PM (GMT)
The livescore board now shows the match, though it hasn't started yet.
Murray for the title (I can dream)
Wise_Analyst - March 14, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
I'm gonna predict a win for No Weapons here. That way, I won't be too disappointed if Murray loses. Players just arrived on court.
Dinky Jo - March 14, 2007 07:56 PM (GMT)
Murray got broken first game
Wise_Analyst - March 14, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
Yep... he's going to be in trouble if he doesn't serve well, and he didn't get many first serves in during that game.
Not too much to worry about, Davydenko doesn't have a great serve and Murray's returning is pretty good.
drakey01 - March 14, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
Well that was a good start
Murray will probably get a few chances to break during the match, though I can't really see him winning it, but then I always seem to expect him to lose except for when he actually does
Wise_Analyst - March 14, 2007 08:05 PM (GMT)
No Weapons holds routinely. He's got off to a good start and Murray doesn't look sharp - plenty of time for that to change though. 2-0.

Not really, Murray had a break point.
SaraLess - March 14, 2007 08:06 PM (GMT)
Murray is clearly suffering from the prediction virus...
"I'll try to focus on it match by match, but I'd say I'm one of the favourites to win the title here."
;)
Dinky Jo - March 14, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
Murray always seems to have problems with his first serve, especially when he's under a lot of pressure. I thought that after his match with Nadal at the AO, him and Brad Gilbert would have put a bit of work in to that........
Wise_Analyst - March 14, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
Murray holds - hopefully he can get it going now. 2-1.
Drakey, are you watching the match? I might not have my full attention on it, but I think you'll find No Weapons held to 15 ;)
And Jo - exactly right about the first serve, Murray's really not producing it so far. He often serves poorly against good returners; his first serve percentage against Federer in Cincinatti was abysmal if I remember correctly.
drakey01 - March 14, 2007 08:11 PM (GMT)
Not according to the live scoreboard, which said murray went 0-30 up, then got one BP at 30-40, which Davydenko saved.
SaraLess - March 14, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
Wise-there is a thread on 606 you may be interested in:
Who's for the chop in the top ten?
As for Murray, he's got good confidence and should let his ability to do the talking - maybe watch some of the comments.
He should beat Davydenko here...who's playing better?
Dinky Jo - March 14, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
 he broke back!!! :D
drakey01 - March 14, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
Murray breaks back 2-2
Pick of the stats:
AM first serve %: 29
AM 1st serve % won: 25
Wise_Analyst - March 14, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
Sara, I wouldn't be so sure about Murray winning, as much as No Weapons bores me, he's a very tricky customer. Hard to call who's playing better so far, they've both shown flashes of quality and flashes of mediocrity.
Murray holds to lead 3-2
And as for the 606 thread - all of them hopefully. Except Nadal ;)

drakey01 - March 14, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
Murray seems to have woken up a little more now, as he fights back from 40-0 love down to duece on DD's serve
Wise_Analyst - March 14, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
No Weapons goes 40-0 up with some solid play but crumbles slightly and some good play from Murray gets him back to deuce. However, the Russian holds his nerve and gets through the game courtesy of a careless error from Andy - 3-3 now.
Dinky Jo - March 14, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
Davydenko still holds tho  those first serve stats of Murray's do not look promising...... :(
mightyjeditribble - March 14, 2007 08:27 PM (GMT)
0-30 to Davydenko on Andy-Pandy's serve ... :yikes:
15-30 ...
I'm not a big fan of Davydenko's game, but he's a really good player. Nonetheless, I would like to see Murray go through here; I prefer his game, and I think he's got the skill and attitude to go far.
40-30 now  C'mon, Andy!
Wise_Analyst - March 14, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
I don't think Murray will necessarily lose if he serves poorly, but I'm pretty sure he'll win if he serves well. So far neither man is doing anything noteworthy with his serve. It's frustrating to watch - not a lot of momentum in the game so far due to all the stoppages from their faults, and their actual groundstrokes are suffering as a result. Not a great game so far.
Meanwhile another second serve filled game from Murray goes to deuce, but he holds eventually. 4-3.
SaraLess - March 14, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
Yes, Davydenko is many things....not least of which solid, reliable (but also somewhat dull and uninventive)
Murray 4-3 up.
mightyjeditribble - March 14, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
Murray holds  :yahoo:
Manzikert - March 14, 2007 08:34 PM (GMT)
Davydenko was a makeable volley away from triple break point, but missed it and then stopped applying the pressure. To Murray's credit he served strongly to get out of trouble.
But both players seem to have brought their B games, and frankly look like they'd rather be anywhere than on a tennis court currently. Their encounters are already tedious affairs (the USO match was a wash) and this looks to be the same.
Also one of these commentators must be watching a replay of another match, because he keeps acting like the Russian is in dire danger, when really it looks like the first set will be a matter of who manages to play the least poorly.

Yeah, when the scores change you cannot beat the excitement can you? roflmao
Wise_Analyst - March 14, 2007 08:35 PM (GMT)
No Weapons gets a bit of momentum going, as he races to 40-0 with some fairly explosive play, for him. Murray gets one point back, but that's all and it's 4-4. Quality seems to be gradually upping :)

Yes people slag Davy off but he is very solid hitter, good defender, returner etc.

Wise_Analyst - March 14, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
... but Murray also races to hold to love with some excellent serving, and what a great time to do so. 5-4 - can No Weapons produce the goods as he serves to stay in the set?

Pity --- I thought this match had the potential to be a good one.
Davydenko has a way to get control of rallies from the baseline, while Murray has enough of a game to try and prevent him from doing so by mixing things up --- I would have thought that, at their best, these styles contrast nicely.
But I guess their games are sufficiently uncomfortable to each other to turn the match into an affair which is uncomfortable to watch as well. Pity :(
SaraLess - March 14, 2007 08:40 PM (GMT)
even more exciting when the scoreboard decides to "freeze"...it's got to be satellite tv time...it's so annoying not being able to watch these matches!
5-4 according to currently functioning scoreboard!

Yes --- and it takes a lot of skill to dominate the points from the baseline as he tends to do.
I personally much prefer players with a greater variety of strategy, as I think in the long run a player should *have* to be able to mix up things a la Federer in order to stay near the top; a plan A without a plan B just shouldn't be enough.
However, you've got to be able to give credit to a player who does well what he does, and is successful for it, even if it's not your favorite style of play --- and Davydenko does very well in his game plan, usually.
He just fought off at least one set point, as I noticed.
