Title: General Updates from Indian Wells
Dinky Jo - March 10, 2007 09:46 PM (GMT)
Not many men's matches going on at the moment, although Youhzny is playing against Acasuso: 3-3 in the first set. I'd personally like to see Youhzny do well here - i really warmed to him during his final with Fed in Dubai.
Dinky Jo - March 10, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
Youhzny has just lost the first set in a tie-break :o
Manzikert - March 10, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
Both players are turning in strong performances. Acasuso in particular has been serving excellently and keeping pressure on Youzhny's usually impeccable backhand, which is proving vulnerable in their long rallies. There was very little to separate the two in the first set, and the marathon tiebreaker came down to the wire. Youzhny fended off three set points but Acasuso made good on the fourth, taking the first set 7-6(9).
Now they've exchanged breaks in the second set, the first breaks of serve in the match. Acasuso has held to lead 2-1. Here's hoping he closes the match out and finally puts an end to Youzhny's hot streak.
Dinky Jo - March 10, 2007 10:41 PM (GMT)
And Querry is 6-2, 5-3 up on C Rochus!
Dinky Jo - March 10, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
looks like Nadal vs Clement is about to start!
Dinky Jo - March 10, 2007 10:54 PM (GMT)
Youhzny vs. Acasuso is 3-3 in the second set. Looks like the pair are exchanging breaks quite a lot......
Manzikert - March 10, 2007 11:14 PM (GMT)
Acasuso springs the break that matters at 5-4 and topples Youzhny in straight sets 7-6(9), 6-4. Brilliant upset.
I'm sure Nadal will be sending the Argentine a cheque soon. ;)

:( Misha.
Here's a nice quote from a Federer interview about Misha Youzhny.
| QUOTE |
Q. Congratulations on the win last week in Dubai. And a couple questions about Mikhail Youzhny. ROGER FEDERER: Sure.
Q. Were you at all surprised to see him in the finals and -- ROGER FEDERER: No, I wasn't surprised.
Q. You were not? ROGER FEDERER: No, because he's an excellent player and I played against him at the Australian Open. I played a very good match against him, actually, the third round, and I didn't think he deserve -- or he got enough credit. You know he deserved people just saying, you know, another routine, kind of a low seed in the tournament, but this guy just beat Nadal at the U.S. Open, played the semis and almost beat Roddick, you know, and here, we are in the third round, nobody's talking about it, so I was a bit disappointed. To see him win Rotterdam, I wasn't surprised that he backed it up so well in Dubai. That was a great effort. I knew it was going to be tough and it was. He's an excellent player and I hope he can crack the top 10 shortly.

Fish vs Mathieu - 4-4 in the first set
Ljubicic lost the first set to Falla :yikes:
Berdych lost the first set to Russell and is a break down in the second :yikes: :yikes:
Bjorkman lost the first set to Chela
- i think all my predictions are going wrong :(
Dinky Jo - March 11, 2007 07:08 PM (GMT)
mathieu took the first set off Fish 7-6
Ljubicic took the second set 6-4
Berdych lost :yikes:
And Bjorkman took the second set off Chela!
mightyjeditribble - March 11, 2007 07:30 PM (GMT)
Chela is serving for the match against Jonas. :(
mightyjeditribble - March 11, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
Jonas lost. :( :( :( :( :(
Dinky Jo - March 11, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
Chela won :(
And Ljuby just broke Falla in the final set
mightyjeditribble - March 11, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
Moya, who I seem to remember was a break down against Mr. Hingis right in the beginning of their match, is now 2-1 on serve, and 30-15 up.
I can't remember my prediction for this one, but I wouldn't mind Moya winning this one.
Dinky Jo - March 11, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
Ljubicic won in 3 against Falla.
Moya is now 4-1 up against Mr Hingis
And Korolev vs,. Tursunov has just started. Come on Dmitry

yeah, at least 1 of my predictions has been right
Moya won the first set against Mr Hingis 6-3
Fish won the second set against Mathieu
And Korolev broke Tursunov in the first game :(
Manzikert - March 11, 2007 08:36 PM (GMT)
Yeah, the Berdych result is a real headscratcher. There's only so far home advantage can take someone (Russell). But the Czech hasn't had a very impressive year thus far. And the Nadal thank-you cheques keep flowing. ;)
Nalbandian narrowly avoids a bagel but still drops the first set 1-6 against Kohlschreiber. Maybe if he deigned to actually play the odd warm-up tourney he could slow his descent into the Gaudio and Coria has-been home.
Dinky Jo - March 11, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
Moya's about to win - another prediction down the drain :( The way things are going for Nalby that one could be going the same way......

I was wondering if I should put Kohly down for the upset. I don't think I did though, unfortunately.

mightyjeditribble - March 11, 2007 09:37 PM (GMT)
I found a live-stream of Star Sports, which seems to be showing the Gonzalez match just starting. But it's not really working all that well, and I've got to do some work in parallel anyway ...
Dinky Jo - March 11, 2007 09:49 PM (GMT)
can anyone tell me what's going on with the Tursunov vs. Korolev match please?

it's ok the scoreboard is back up and running
Dmitry
Manzikert - March 11, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
They're locked in a second set tiebreaker, which Tursunov must win to keep the match alive. Nalbandian has just salvaged his own hopes by eking out the second set 7-5.

according to the live scores, Dmitry lost in the third set!
and nalby is losing 4-1 in the third set - i think eurosport has stopped giving updates
Wise_Analyst - March 11, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
Korolev continues his impressive run of form with a victory over Tursunov. Nalbandian's a break down to Kohlschrieber in the final set.
Robredo's a break down to Simon in the first. Simon should win this, he's been in good form recently, while Robredo is another journeyman in disguise who needs to be chased out of the top 10 by a pack of wolves (or preferably, lions).
Manzikert - March 11, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
No, you're right. I wasn't paying attention to either match and apparently my page had stopped reloading at some point. =P
A shame about Tursunov. I wonder if post-Las Vegas Korolev will be a force to be reckoned with.

well, that's me screwed in the prediction contests then!!!
Wise_Analyst - March 11, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
Well we can't all be prediction experts ;)2
Nalbandian's just broken back though. if that helps? 4-4 now. And Simon looks like choking serving for the first set...

are there matches going on courts 1 + 2 - my scoreboard just gives the results of the Murray and Fish matches :badpc: :badpc:

Manzikert - March 11, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Gonzalez is making a meal out of what was nearly a 5-2 lead but is now 5-all against Canadian Dancevic. Sharapova is still on Court 1.

Don't be pedantic!
Simon just choked by the way  5-4 now. Kohl and Burger King locked at 5-5 in the decider.
And yep, Sharapova's on court 1 and Gonzo and Dancevic are just concluding the first set on court 2...

i've now got court number 2 up  getting there slowly - at this rate i'll be able to follow the score whilst Fed beats Canas :D ;)2
Wise_Analyst - March 11, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
Don't worry about that, chet and I will be here to provide an impartial, neutral commentary on Canas's victory if your scoreboard doesn't work :P
Nalbandian running away with the final set tie-breaker. And Gonzo just choked bigtime in the first set tie-break!
