Title: Agassi on grass

What do think is the best Andre can hope for on grass this year? It would brilliant if he could survive until the 2nd week. Hopefully he comes back rested and rejuvenated after missing the clay court season.

Wimbledon Champ!! OK, maybe it's not that likely, but I bet it's the best he's hoping for. I sure hope he's feeling fit enough to be back in action for Wimbledon. And I hope he's not in the same half of the draw as Federer. If he IS playing well, I'd hate to see Agassi v. Fed end up as a 3rd or 4th round match.

Big Al - June 8, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
In particular Id love to see him play Karlovic, Henman or Roddick. All players who depend on their serve. :)
He did reach the US open final so he's still capable of producing the goods. Reaching the second week is a definite possibility . And he's still far more interesting to watch than most of them. Heres hoping we're in for a treat or two. :ok:

Big Al - June 24, 2006 09:39 PM (GMT)
Henman-Agassi is now unmissable

Big Al - June 29, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)
Sorry, I meant Agassi-Nadal. What a treat

sir matchstickmen - June 30, 2006 11:10 AM (GMT)
and i'd think, a victory for agassi ;)

SuperBRAT - June 30, 2006 04:21 PM (GMT)
I really hope Agassi beats Nadal. I don't see Agassi winning the tournie, but he has th ebetter skill over Nadal by a long chalk. Just depends though if his body holds up, as it would be a shame for Nadal to win purely because he runs him aroudn too much.

Lex - July 1, 2006 12:36 PM (GMT)
well, they've just started playing..

Nadal 1-0 in first set, held serve

He's making André run around a bit. If that keeps up, then I see Nadal winning it.

set point to Nadal after Agassi double faults, but overcooked forehand return. 2nd set point after stunning return from Nadal but Agassi produces brilliant serve to save it. 3rd set point after Agassi overhits after a backhand slice from Nadal. Agassi saves it with subtle volley and goes on to win game.

5-5

Lex - July 1, 2006 01:23 PM (GMT)
Agassi still hasn't taken Nadal's service to deuce or had any breaks. He needs to attack Nadal's 2nd serve more.

6-5 Nadal

Lex - July 1, 2006 01:26 PM (GMT)
Agassi holds his serve to love. Tie-break

Lex - July 1, 2006 01:36 PM (GMT)
Agassi breaks on first point, but overcooks a return after a great rally. Holds second point after another fine rally. Nadal hits into net on his serve, 3-1 Agassi. A nasty bounce gives Nadal the point. Agassi holds next serve and stays a break up 4-2. Excellent serve puts Nadal under pressure 5-2. Nadal holds both serves 5-4. Agassi hits ball out on first serve and a stunning return from Nadal secures second point from him. Set point Nadal on his serve. Aces it

Good serving from Agassi and he holds to love.

3-2

Lex - July 1, 2006 02:01 PM (GMT)
Nadal is very impressive and unless Agassi can dig deep, it looks as though it could be a straight sets victory.

Agassi pressures Nadal's serve but Nadal plays some brilliant shots. Agassi still hasn't had a break point or taken Nadal to deuce.

4-2 Nadal

Lex - July 1, 2006 02:03 PM (GMT)

Nadal is putting pressure on André's serve. Agassi is getting a bit fraught as he skies a miss-hit return. He holds his serve after going to deuce.

3-2 Agassi

Lex - July 1, 2006 02:33 PM (GMT)
only seems to be a matter of time as Nadal holds easily to draw level

3-3

Agassi is once again getting a lot of pressure on his game. I think this could be the crunch game. Nadal gets 2 break points again. He overcooks a forehand return, but so does Agassi

Nadal leads 4-3

Lex - July 1, 2006 02:37 PM (GMT)
Nadal is in command with an impressive service game to love. He's served 16 aces

5-3 Nadal

Agassi's Wimbledon career is coming to an end, but he hangs on to his game.

5-4

Lex - July 1, 2006 02:52 PM (GMT)
Nadal serves for the match - can Agassi get a break point or even deuce?

The crowd give the players a tremendous reception, André takes off his cap.

Nadal doesn't need luck, but he is getting it with strange bounces. Both players are playing very well. Agassi overcooks a forehand return to give Nadal 2 match points. He nets a return. 1 match point remaining. He aces it

Game, set and match Nadal.

7-6, 6-2, 6-4

The crowd give Agassi a standing ovation, Steffi looks to be in tears. André blows kisses to the crowd as they cheer.

Nadal is giving interview and paying tribute to André saying he is unbelievable - I think he will become a centre court favourite.

André's voice is thick with emotion and he wipes a tear away as he thanks the Wimbledon crowd ('scuse me the screen has gone a bit blurry  )

The crowd give him yet another standing ovation as both players leave the court. André signs autographs on the way out.

A legend!

Great commentary Lex.
It was very emotional at the end , not a dry eye in the house. Agassis last match. :(
But who knows, he might be back for an encore like the showman he is ... :ok:

Big Al - July 1, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
My Avatar says it all really !

Lex - July 1, 2006 11:40 PM (GMT)
thanks Al

I've followed him since he was a brat ;)

Amazing to think that he once boycotted Wimbledon for 3 years after his very first time their and he went out to Henri Leconte in the 1st round. He hated the grass then. But how things turned around and he now says this is the best place he has ever played at.
