i dont like either of these very much either... but i cannot stand blues brothers therefore by default my vote goes to clockwork orange,

I know quite a few people who were fans of A Clockwork Orange, but I thought it was a dreadful film. :shrug: Personal taste and all that . . .

I give a big :ok: to Blues Brothers, though. A classic comedy.

Any film with Aretha in it is worth watching :D

Seriously, I could not decide. Bizarre contrast of films, but then my tastes are all about bizarre contrasts, dark and light etc. The other day I watched a fluffy MGM musical from the 50s followed by a previously banned slasher horror flick. Really enjoyed it, and got through a whole bottle of champers.

I started reading a clockwork orange whilst on a train journey when I was about 21. I think that I nearly threw it out of the window after the first chapter!! :o

Blues Brothers for me, then.. agree with SW re: Soul Legends in that film :)

Did you? I thought it was a really good book - some 17 year old waitress who I worked with when I was about 27 persuaded me to read it, and it's not pretty but it is mind blowing. I do like to be mentally challenged now and again, or maybe I am just thick? roflmao I never did get my head round the Unbearble Lightness of Being though ..... :D

I did continue with it, but perhaps not my cup of tea.. :shrug: I know that it deals with some weighty issues which I'm ok with, but it was some of the things that the main character did, and the fact that he described his enjoyment of them which freaked me out at the time.. one thing in particular in fact. but I win't give away the plot.

Yeah I know EXACTLY what you mean. A certain couple of scenes made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable, seriously. And it totally disgusted me. I still hate those scenes. However, the film is extremely thought provoking in terms of violence - what motivates people, what we can do to punish adn control this, and is that remedy moral? Know what I mean. :) I am sure though that some young kids will see no further than glorifed violence, but you cant; blame the great director Kubric nor the author Burgess for that - they are trying to provoke thought and disgust us about the reality violence. Sadly though less intelligent people will take it the wrong way,. That film was banned you know! I think Reservoir Dogs in vile and much. much worse and irrresponsible! The violence was too cool and they *bleep*ed up my Steelers' Wheel classic song the 7897s!

Know what you mean about the violence thing being made 'cool'. You know the violence in today's films is so stylised that it sometimes loses its impact.. Sometimes the violence in films made in the 60s or 70s can seem far more chilling.. :yikes:

You are right that in the 60s and 70 they made it chilling and that was enough to make the average decent person think it was wrong. And often in modern movies violence has no consequences. Now I am all for realism, and in reality, violence has NO consequence for people like the Mafia - I mean hardly any get caught do they? BUT it's all about the way you portray it. The media DOEs have freedom BUT also a responsibilty - kids are very easily infleunced and anxious to be cool, so they need to keep their actions in check accordingly.
