(Though I have just read that Hantuchova has got a late entry)

Unfortunately it seems that due to Miami being mandatory, several of the very top players have decided to skip this event (Henin, Mauresmo, etc.).

But apart from the very best, most players are entered here :)

chokapova - February 26, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
Not a very good field... roflmao

Seriously though, it's a pity there is no Justine, Amelie, Kim, Serena or Venus! :(

SerenaW19 - February 26, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
Looks like Sharapova has a great shot at defending her title pending a late entry from Justine, Williamses...

Although saying that I wouldn't be hugely surprised if someone like Chakvetaze ended up winning.

I like to get in my early predictions you know :D

I won't create a new thread yet because it's still a while away, but the Family Circle Cup has a superb line-up this year so far:

- Maria Sharapova
- Justine Henin
- Amelie Mauresmo
- Svetlana Kuznetsova
- Martina Hingis
- Serena Williams
- Venus Williams
- Nicole Vaidisova
- Jelena Jankovic
- Dinara Safina

...and more :)

Nope (it's an old-ish entry list) :(

"Unfortunately, I have to pull out of the Qatar Total Open in Doha, Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells and the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami as a result of the surgery on my left foot, which took place in January,” said Myskina. “At this moment, I am in the process of rehabilitating my foot. Thus far, my rehab has been going well and I am hoping to rejoin the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour starting with the clay court season in April. I will be following the Tour very closely and wish these first-class tournaments much success."

Kuznetsova, Hantuchova & Schiavone have all entered Indian Wells.

Mirza, Bovina & Groenefeld have all pulled out.

For once players pulling out have actually improved the quality of the field!

Manzikert - March 5, 2007 10:55 PM (GMT)
The draw has been made:

Projected R16 match-ups:

Sharapova v Zvonareva (hmmm)
Li v Jankovic
-
Peer v Chakvetadze
Hingis v Hantuchova (revenge in the cards?)
---
Dementieva v Ivanovic
Golovin v Petrova
-
Vaidisova v Safina
Sugiyama v Kuznetsova

Safarova is in Peer's section. We'll see if she'll pick up where she left off in Paris.

vivahate - March 5, 2007 11:25 PM (GMT)
Hingis will make the final :P

Where is Justine? Tell me she is playing. Without the williams and Justine its going to be a Pova cake walk or a Amelie choking session. :D

T01 - March 6, 2007 01:22 PM (GMT)
well Amelie is not playing either. So it is Maria's for the taking. If she fails to reach the semis she will lose the No1 ranking to Justine! Hope that Jankovic can do the honours!

GS2 - March 6, 2007 04:57 PM (GMT)
Indian Wells –

The first of the big spring hardcourt events and although the field isn’t as good as Miami it’s still pretty strong.

1st Quarter –
Sharapova returns to action for the first time since her injury problems in Tokyo and it will be interesting to see how strongly she returns. She has a decent draw – first round either Krajicek (who hasn’t played well this year) or Arvidsson who shouldn’t give her any problems. Third round is scheduled to be Pennetta who’s only now getting back into form after her own injury problems. The 4th round will be more interesting with a rematch against Zvonareva (who likewise should reach this stage without too many problems) but as long as she’s fit Maria should be able to handle it. QF opponent is likely to be Li Na or Jankovic who are the class acts in their section of the draw. If Jelena’s ankle holds up then I would assume she will make it through which could lead to the most interesting QF of the lot. They have played before but not since Birmingham 2005 and Jelena is a very different player now.

2nd Quarter –
Top half of this looks like it should be a pretty smooth ride for Hingis with her 3rd round opponent seeded to be Roberta Vinci who has nothing to hurt Martina. After that it gets a bit tougher either Schiavone or Hantuchova but really despite what happened in Doha Martina should be able to take out either of these two. Predicting Hinigs’s QF opponent is much trickier since the bottom half of this quarter is loaded – Peer, Safarova, Kirilenko & Chakvetadze are the seeds and you could make a case for any of them getting through here. In reality though I think we can rule out Kirilenko even if she has been playing better lately. Peer could make it through but if she’s fit I can see Safarova beating her in the 3rd round leading to a 4th round clash with Chakvetadze which either could win. Anna is the more consistent so I’ll go for her. This section also has two of the more interesting unseeded players with Radwanska & Lucic. Can’t see Lucic making any impression this early into her comeback but Radwanska is dangerous.

3rd Quarter –
Bit of a lottery this one, Dementieva is the top seed but we know she hasn’t been at her best this year and has had injury problems. She’ll probably have to play the inform Bammer in her first round and then Peng in the next after that Ivanovic who I can see coming through here into the QF’s. There’s also the most interesting match of the first round in this section – Molik v Rezai. Facing either Ivanovic or Dementieva in the QF’s will be Petrova or Golovin. Both recently had a strong run in the European indoor events – Golovin has a 3-1 leading H2H against Petrova but lost their last match and has a tricky third round against Stosur but is always capable of springing a surprise (when the pressure is off at least)

4th Quarter –
This looks to be heading to a Kuznetsova/Vaidisova QF. Kuznetsova seems to have picked up her game recently (except against Justine of course!) and should have too much for the other seeds in her section – Poutchkova, Garbin & Sugiyama. Vaidisova has it tougher with a potential 4th round match up against Safina but Dinara has been pretty disappointing since her Gold Coast win and Nicole should have the upper hand. Oh and another comeback player in this section – Brenda Schultz McCarthy making another appearance on the main tour.

So I’d go for a QF lineup of

Sharapova v Jankovic
Hingis v Chakvetadze
Ivanovic v Golovin (got to have some upsets!)
Vaidisova v Kuznetsova

I prefare Justine being number 1 than pottypova, pova being number is not good for the image of women tennis. The only thing she can do better than anyone on the field, is scream and cheat (well she might tally with justin on the cheat). The true deserving number is Justine and hopely that will come in place.
