Title: RG Semifinals
Nick Havoc - June 6, 2006 09:24 PM (GMT)
If Nadal and Ljubicic manage to win tomorrow, that will mean the Top 4 seeds all advanced to the semis. I would think that is pretty rare in the slams in general and more so at RG, as the top 4 in the rankings are rarely the top 4 on clay courts.
Anyone know the last time this happened?

Not sure but something rings a bell that it wasnt too long ago. Maybe it was a ladies G.S. Something to take to bed with roflmao

Well. I was think mens in particular. Probably doesn't happen that often with the ladies, either, but in general the top few tend to be more dominant on the ladies side than the mens. (Though that seems to have reversed in the last couple years.)

Australian Open 2005 I believe...

That's right. It's hard to believe that such a short time ago, Roddick, Hewitt and Safin were seeded 2, 3 & 4.

Well one never knows. Its always nice to see an underdog in the last four could still happen yet. 11am bst Eurosport

Well, seed 1, 2 and 3 are in. Just Ljubicic v. Benneteau yet to go. I think Ljubo will probably win, but I could see a possibility of him being upset. I don't think either will get past Nadal, though.
Nick Havoc - June 7, 2006 01:42 PM (GMT)
Ljubicic is close to closing out the first set.
Denon - June 7, 2006 01:42 PM (GMT)
It's interesting that possibly the top four seeds on the men's side could make it. THis is the opposite of the WTA tour right now, where ten years ago, it was the other way around. I like when the top seeds make it.
Nick Havoc - June 7, 2006 01:53 PM (GMT)
So, you found it, Denon. I think the forum is going pretty well, though a little bit slow at times. But hopefully more people will find there way over here and there can be a little more lively tennis discussions. It has its busy moments already.
Meanwhile, Ljubo is now up 6-2, 2-0
Denon - June 7, 2006 01:57 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it's good. thanks for letting me know about it. the biggest difference is that this board is separated in two divisions - ATP and WTA. And it can be hard to go back and forth. I like it though. Set up is done well!!!! I'm glad to know of someone familiar here.
Nick Havoc - June 7, 2006 03:06 PM (GMT)
Not much drama in the quarters. . . . Ljubicic is about to serve this one out in three quick sets.
6-2, 6-2, 5-3 now.

Nope I was wrong but not very exciting 1/4 finals today eh?
Now I just cannot see past a Fed/ Nadal final once again
Nick Havoc - June 7, 2006 03:37 PM (GMT)
Not too exciting at all. The ones yesterday were just a little better, but didn't provide a lot of drama, either. I think Fed v. Nalbandian could be a really close one. I, too, think Federer will win, but a Nalbandian win would not be a shocker.
JymJilly - June 7, 2006 03:53 PM (GMT)
Yes sometimes the latter stages can be a little one sided. But having said that it is usually the final that is more so. But if it is Nadal/ Fed then I doubt it.
I think Nalbandian will probably push Fed a bit but I doubt he will win. He has a problem with winning the ones that really matter imo.
Nadal wont have any trouble I think And I hope Fed wins the F.O. Its always nice when a little bit of history is made and we are around to witness it

Yeah I agree. I dont think Nalbandian will stop the Fedexpress. It seems to be on course to reach its destination and even Nadal might not catch it.. ;)
But whatever happens, its a great weekend of tennis ahead. :D

Agreed on all fronts, JymJilly :)
Hi Al.. definitely looking forward to the weekend of tennis ahead too!! :ok:
Awesome_Agassi - June 8, 2006 10:58 PM (GMT)
Federer V Nalbandian - Wow!. I think this be a tough game for Federer but his quality should tell and I fancy him to win in 4 sets. I would love Nalbandian to win a Grand slam as soon as possible, but I also want Federer to win all 4 slams. I am dead neutral in this match.

interesting to note also that the men's doubles will be between the no 1 and 2 seeds,
when was the last time the top 4 seeds got to the singles semi-final and the top 2 seeds got to the doubles?
and if Federer and Nadal make it through when was the last time the both the mens singles and doubles finals where between the top 2 seeds?
