Pretty girl for sure, but her eyes look wierd and unnatural in these pics to me.
The bulked-up version of Sharapova playing the circuit these days would look rather different I think.

Famous pic (for a number of reasons  ) from more attractive times.

Giggity Giggity Giggity !!!

It is just me who thinks that while Maria is an attractive girl, she isn't stunning? Last year she came top in Sports Illustrated's Best Looking Female Athlete's list, but their were surfers, volleyball players etc who were considerably better looking than her. Possibly the fact that she is the most high profile sportswoman skewed the list in her favour. Also i've always thought that fellow tennis players Kirilenko and Ivanovic are also comfortably better than her in the looks deparment.
barrystar - March 6, 2007 06:40 PM (GMT)
I agree AA - nice legs and otherwise pretty, but not a stunner. I think that ever since she hit the big-time and started coining in the advertiser's cash her looks have gone from natural to 'attempted sassy' and the former suited her better. As I said above, those SI shots are weird if you look at her eyes - she is trying to give the camera a 'look' but it is not at all natural and does not work for me. If you can bring yourself to look at her eyes in the pic I posted ;)2 you will see that they are much more natural and, to me, she is prettier.
Edit: I think it's in part because when she smiles now her eyes are not in sync with the rest of her face.
Also, now I have got used to the way she plays tennis, she is also less attractive for that in my eyes - I hate the noise and long for a bit more artistry.

This is a Camel's Toe

As the song in Walt Disney's Cinderella goes.

'upskirt' shots of Sharapova, anyone?
Check the british tabloids every June and they'll no doubt be doing exactly the same.
Very tiresome. And about as interesting as the pub bore who will tell anyone who will care to listen that he'd "do" Kylie (or whoever) given half the chance.
Personal preferences.. fine.. but there's a difference between that and being a tabloid sleazeball ;)
SerenaW19 - March 6, 2007 09:00 PM (GMT)
I think Sharapova is glamourous, pretty and beautiful all in one. The only player on tour I find more attractive is Ivanovic. The only criticism I have of Maria is that she's a bit skinny.
She laughs smiles and giggles a lot in interviews, and ok not in sports illustrated shoots, but generally comes of very natural and genuine and warm...and I like that, I think it adds to her beauty.
I see two Sharapova's a more glamourous sports star image with an aura about her. I also see the happy smiley blone girl who is about my age. To be honest I don't have problems with either B)
Her style of play however is another matter. Not that I hate it mind.
ObL!v!0N - March 6, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
ok look, I don't think she's ugly, but I don't think she's that attractive. You see the newspapers cum Wimbledon, they go OTT with her, and I think it's the media that try and make her out like she's the most beautiful person that ever lived. I've seen that most tennis fans do not find her attractive, and most women don't seem to either. Don't see what all the fuss about her is really.

I don't read the newspapers anway. And if I found them repetitive and boring then I certainly wouldn't.
I can form my own opinions on something useing a vareity of sources. Don't need the newspapers to do that for me :)

Kirilenko kicks Sharapova's ass in the looks department. She's definately the hottest Maria around.

I used to think Kirilenko was prettier, but I don't anymore. Not sure why.

Fair enough but they're pretty close.
Didn't Hingis and Kournikova have a fight in the locker room once? I also remember the first time that they split up Hingis kept on gloating about how she achieved much more than Kournie. That was pretty funny.

I did not comment on the upskirt pic petalp, I don't happen to think that is in good taste. Take a look back at my comments.
My personal preference is for her as I think she is a stunner.
I am sure others would be upset if I went on to another player's thread and posted negative comments.

i can see your comments Gav, and am fine with them.
Also, no, not my habit to make negative comments on threads.
And by the way, where in any of my comments did I state that she wasn't attractive??? That is not what I'm saying.
So please bear in mind the fact that I haven't questioned your personal tastes, not once. So no need to get defensive about it.
And in a roundabout way, you are agreeing with part of what I'm saying. It's not the liking of Sharapova that's the issue. For example, SW19 articulated it very well. But there's a way of doing it that screams male cliche fantasy, and is more than just a little sleazy. And it happened earlier on this thread, hence my posting and dl's. The posting by Yorkshire took it in a different direction of personal preferences, which was not the crux of my original post..

Fair enough. I think perhaps we have both seen comments in different ways. I got a little defensive when I saw "tabloid sleazeball" in a reply to my previous post. I thought it was aimed at me, when now it is obvious to me that it was not.

I am probably the original tabloid sleazeball, having posted the offending picture - I thought I was standing back and laughing at that genre of photos. Maybe I was trying to be subtle in circumstances which could not really retrieve the original lack of subtlety
I think she's a pretty girl, but her looks are over-hyped, and I think she was prettier when she was younger because she was more natural and, seemingly, not so aware of her image (and its value in terms of $$$$$). I really don't enjoy her style of tennis and the monkey business with Yuri, although I like the fact that she's a battler.
She's always well down the list of my preferred winners at the beginning of a tournament.

Fair enough BarryStar.
I've had first hand experience of the attitude that you mentioned taking a step back and laughing at, having seen Sharapova play. It wasn't so nice to witness, either from the tabloid persepctive or from the neanderthal 'bloke' perspective.
Don't want to get overtly pc about this, but against that backdrop it does make it tiresome. Doesn't of course mean a humour bypass either.!

Gav's not giving excuses. His liking of Sharapova was never anything that had to be justified, just a clarification of a few things.
