I am. I had a feeling she was going to do it! After the way she played in her 3rd set against Kuzzy, I knew she'd come out like that in the final, plus, she really wanted this and needed it to boost her confidence after all that she has been through. I don't think I've ever seen her so happy for quite a while (expected I s'pose). Hopefully she can win Doha also

For the first time EVER I was not nervous. I'm usually a nervous wreck when it comes to her matches .. they are so rollercoasterish! Apart from when she played Lindsay of course  That was a joke I promise!!

Got any recent piccies of Lindsay? I'd love to see what she looks like pregnant ... I bet it really suits her   Bless, love her, miss her

Hi TQJ,

Of course message boards are for putting forward opinions..! It was just a light hearted observation that when it comes to opinions you happen to be very forthright, and could never be accused of not mincing your words!! That's all.. don't read anything more into it than that.

Re: Amelie's comments.. no, I hadn't read about what she has been saying. Do you have any links for this, and if so can you please post them? I am curious as usually Amelie is one of the players less likely to go around bitching about other players.. well at least, that is my take on things.

And for the record, i'm a big fan of Justine's game. Her backhand is especially  imo. I'm not a fan of power hitting, and have always enjoyed watching "la petite Belge" standing up to the big hitters. :ok:

Surprised by amelie on the one hand...she was complaining about
people skipping tournaments...but when she gets to the final... she doesn't recorgnise all those who skipped for her to be there....

2 slams and a diamond racquet can do that to you......... I am not angry with her :) just my two cents and a few pennies :)

HI Suzi.. :)

Do you have any links re: the comments that Amelie has made?

I'll be a little disappointed in her if she has been saying a few unfair things.. I had thought that just wouldn't be the sort of thing that she'd do.. :(

Without dredging up old issues, I have no qualms about JH missing tournaments. Part of the reason for this is that players can miss them. Until the WTA or ATP make it more punitive for players to miss tournaments then it will continue to happen.

In normal jobs, people don't miss work because of marriage difficulties. But I think that is a sad indictment on our work-driven culture, more than anything else, and of course a marriage is far more important than one measly tournament.

Re: AO '06. I'd say that this should be put to bed now as it's old news. Don't know why Amelie would see the reason to mention it. Again, I'd be interested to get some links on this.

Also, I don't think that it's a 'gimme' that Amelie wouldn't make tournament finals if it weren't for other players skipping them. That would be devaluing her achievements, wouldn't it, no?

I was just browsing google petal and I found this article. I thought you might like to read it. What I got from it regarding Amelie is that she is not above making catty comments. Although of course she is far from being outspoken and by and large, is quite unassuming. On the other hand, if she does have a bee in her bonnet then don't expect her to sit quiety in the corner ;)

The two comments from last years Wimbledon finalists were made shortly after their semi drubbings from Vee and Serena in 2002 so they're entitled to be a little peeved off I suppose :D

Serena meets Venus; players cry foul

London, July 5
As Venus and Serena Williams prepared to take to centre court at Wimbledon tomorrow for their third Grand Slam final together in less than a year the sisters were fending off criticism that they have reduced women’s tennis to a family duel.

Venus won the first round when she successfully defended her US Open title last year, and Serena came back to win the French Open in an error-strewn match where neither of the sisters played to their ability.

Amid allegations that dad Richard, who has been conspicously absent from the sidelines at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, chooses who will win, players admitted that they were finding it hard to keep up with the Williams.

“Well, you have to ask them for that,” said France’s Amelie Mauresmo curtly when asked to predict who would win after her 6-2 6-1 semi-final loss to Serena.

“To me I think it’s a little bit sad for women’s tennis. Because first I think people are going to get bored about it. I’m not counting how many people told me ‘We don’t want a Williams final’.”

Belgian sixth seed Justine Henin, who went out 6-3 6-2 to Venus, echoed the French player.

“That’s good for them but I think that maybe the crowd would also like to see the other players in different Grand Slam finals. But if they are in the final that’s because they’re playing well. It’s a difficult situation.”

But for the sisters playing together doesn’t seem to pose as big a problem.

In fact Serena, 20, admitted she would rather play 22-year -old Venus than anyone else because they could make the maximum amount of money.

“You guys seem to have more of a problem with it than us,” said Serena.

“I try to put it as if I’m facing other players. But obviously I’m not. I’m facing the best player in the world right now and it’s going to be difficult.”

Venus, bidding to emulate Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova by completing a hat-trick, is aware Serena who will take her world number one spot next week as a result of reaching the final here is snapping at her heels.

“When I walk out there, I realise I’m playing the number two player, a real powerhouse, I’ve got to be on my toes,” said Venus.

Wouldn't want to devalue her achievements in anyway..Petalp.

I think she was just caught in the moment of her recent success at Antwerp...

The interview was on CNN..... she said she was rather tired at the start of dubai cause she came from antwerp and the court surface was different and all...
being outdoors or something...and there shouldn't be so many people withdrawing cos you end up being called up..as replacements ...and so on...

SW, thanks for that! :)

Well, I guess that Amelie isn't above making the odd catty comment.. and I certainly wouldn't think that any player is above criticism, and Amelie defintely seems in a bad mood in that interview!

I wonder if the WTA is a little more catty than the ATP though? There's the antagonism between Sharapova and the other Russians, Justine and Kim have never really got on, Martina H isn't shy about ciriticising others, and the Williams sisters certainly can have an 'us against the world' frame of mind.

Maybe it's just more in the nature of the women's game? The guys get criticised for being too nice to each other (as Johnny Mac did lawst week), after all, so maybe you can't win!

Hmm.. maybe she was caught up in the moment there then, and for that it is probabvly worthwhile jsut giving her the benefit of the doubt here. Again, I'm hedging slightly as I don't know the full facts on this. But as you said, best not to make too much of a flash in the pan incident?

I happen to like both Justine and Amelie. It's just that I'd hardly seen Amelie say anything about Justine's withdrawal from the AO last year. With that in mind, maybe a few fans of Justine should cut Amelie some slack here.

Also the issue of players' withdrawals is certainly a problem that both the ATP and WTA fail to address adequately. Players withdraw because they can. Apart from losing ranking points, as far as I know there is no real punishment for this.

There is also the issue of bad scheduling too. I think that there are differing attitudes here. The tennis bodies clog up the schedules for monetary reasons.. players pull out (inevitably) as the schedules are too congested, especially as the top players play far more games per tournament.. and then the ATP/ WTA get annoyed because the players are not there to pull in the crowds to make the money for them.. and the top players don't need the money.

I'm so happy for Justine, I really am - she needed this after what she has been through recently.  A fantastic confidence boost for her.  Especially against aMANlie Mauresmo - sweet justice  :ok:  :ok:

roflmao  roflmao at the comment from the troll who said Amelie wins when it matters.  That's right Justine has 5 GS's and Amelie has 2 and the way she's losing at the moment especially with all her bagels that she gets she's not gonna be winning anymore slams in the future!!  roflmao  roflmao  roflmao

FYI i am not a TROLL

Excuse me Amelie does beat Justine when it matters i.e. Wimbledon, Aus Open!

And I really dislike you!

roflmao roflmao roflmao

Oh .. glad you dislike me, wouldn't want anyone like you liking me, that would be very scary :yikes:

Heyup Qj, I see things haven;t changed! roflmao

I love MoMo as you know and I am very pleased for Justine after all that crap from her hubbie, fair play to the girl for showing she has balls, even in difficult situations

What you been up to then? Not so regular these days.

Hi SB

Exactly .... nothing's changed roflmao roflmao still the same ol' trolls eh?

Anyway, I'm fine, how are you?

I'm not so regular because I haven't been taking ex-lax .... :)

Nah just joking. Truth is, there are still quite a few trolls on this board and I'd rather not post as much when they are on here. So many Justine haters and so many rude posters, it seems nothing is done about it  that's why I don't post that much.

I mean it's pathetic really, how can a poster say that they hate me when they don't even know me or have never even met me OR when they've only read a couple of my posts? I thought this forum was supposed to get rid of all the "shit"? But hey, as you say, "some things never change". roflmao

I'm going to Eastbourne (got my tickets) and Wimbledon -will be getting ground tickets and waiting for 1st match to finish on Centre Court and will then buy a ticket off the people that leave after 1st match - this year, fancy it?

I must say QJ your comment did make me furrow my brow a little then. There is no trolling activity on this board whatsoever, apart from perhaps, multiple account spamming.

Certainly none in the WTA sections. I know someone said they hated Justine, but that's just an opinion, it doesn't make them a hater, certainly not a troll and even if it did make them a hater there's only one...who else hates Justine?

It's a shame really, because as you know I like you as a poster and it's nice to have plenty of fans of different players. I think it makes the board more interesting :D

Anyway, hope to see you around more and see you at Eastbourne ;)
