Title: RG Womens' Quarters
Description: What did you think?
SuperBRAT - June 6, 2006 04:33 PM (GMT)
I onyl got to see the Venus match and some of the Clijsters one. I felt they were both an anti-climax, as Venus did nto play very well and Clijsters predictably hammered Hingis in set 2.
I was dissappointed that Vensu did nto seem to be abel to play percentage tennis today and get soem rallies going to wear down vaidisova. All credit to Nicole, she deserved it and really held herself together and didn't choke and looked very postive and assured for a 17 year old. But Venus was frustrating and gave an unpolished performance not worthy of her experince and talent.
It was sad to see Hingis get battered in the second set by Kim, especially when it was clear that Hingis was the mor etalented and polished player, with Kim winning points mainyl due to her power. Very dissappointing, but I always though that Kim woudl win in straight sets. Great fight by Hingis in set 1 mind.
Anyone see Kuzzy and Safina? And how did Groenfeld play against JHH? I woudl have liked to have seen that out of interest.

I blame your ' feeling ' about Vaidisova for Venus losing SB! roflmao roflmao
Its like me when i predicted Elena would beat Lindsay at the Open.....and she did, much to Dav's disgust

sorry about venus dl :( I too though she would make a comeback at the third.
the first set was very good- second and third so so because of the UE, 127 between them in total.
well done to vaidisova! she has really broken through I think! good luck to her! :ok:
only say second set of clijsters- hingis. hingis was a nice change after the powerplay! shame she got outplayed like that. maybe she was tired. she was playing 4 days in row after all. how high will she climb the rankings after FO?

I didn't see any of the matches so I can't really comment except to say not one of the women I was going for won :(

Kim played really well - don't know how many UEs there were, but there can't have been many. She looked to be in total control

Martina's biggest problem is her weak 2nd serve. She just needs to get some power behind it, or get her 1st serve percentage up from 57% <doh>
If she can do that, she'll get past the power players like Kimmi

I only saw the second set BTW And i was really torn - I'd like both of them to win the FO (!)

I actually think its Hingis's lack of a big first strike in a rally. Hingis takes time to dominate in the rallies, wheras Kim likes to dictate from the word go. I believe she will undo her deffinicies sooner rather than late, but it is hindering her against the very best it seems.

A good analysis, dl. The "rallies" that i saw hardly desevrved the term - it was mainly Kim demolishing Martina's return - although not solely. A pity that Hingis lost, tho - she is such an intelligent player.
How was your BBQ on Sat evening, dl? I thought of you - it was bloody cold here in denmark and I was glad i was in a nice cosy sitting-room!

Unfortunately Scolios power most of time seems to outdo subtlety on most occasions.......
I didnt have a BBQ, did i say that?
scolios - June 6, 2006 07:46 PM (GMT)
Oops, dl sorry, I think it was LDF who was having a BBQ. So there was I thinking of the wrong person :(

I'm glad Kim is through and against JHH sj=hould be a close match considering their H2H is 10-9 in Kim's favour
The other semi between Kuznetsova and Nicole could be equally entertaining with both being excellent on form but inconsistant..
