There's only one there that I would've personally chosen, so I shall be voting for it :D

Nick Havoc - February 21, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
Ooh, tough one. I haven't seen Schindler's List, but I've heard such good things about it. I think it may be the best of the lot, but it's hard to vote for a film I haven't actually seen. I have seen the other two, and they're both good films . . . Oh, the pressure. roflmao

Forrest Gump :o

Forrest Gump :o

Forrest Gump was a good film. It may appeal more to an American audience, though, as there are a lot of references in there that someone not particularly familiar with American history and culture might miss.

scolios - February 21, 2007 04:46 PM (GMT)
Was I allowet to vote? I see this is round five of something (what???), which has escaped my notice until now.

I voted for Schindler's List - great film, one of Spielberg's best, and he has made some great ones.

Deer Hunter: prety good, too, but definitely second, and then nothing, and then Forrest Gump in fourth :D

i'm not a very big tom hanks fan in all honesty - so he annoyed me more than the film.....plus, it was up against Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption for best picture....

Yeah, I think I mentioned on another thread that I would have picked Shawshank Redemption that year. But I still think Forrest Gump was a good film, with a lot of clever historical references. One that probably even most international viewers would have caught was when he was in Washington (in the Watergate Hotel) to visit the White House with his winning football team, he called to report something going on in an office across the way. But there were little things like that all through the movie.

I wanted to pick The Sound of Music or Casablamca, but I see how few people on here like that kind of thing. One of my favourites on the OScars list was Godfather Part 2, but I doubted that would do well after GF part1 flopped. roflmao I expected someone to pick Slience of the Lambs, I hate it but thought it would be popular.

I have NEVER seen GWTW I must confess. I may enjoy it, not sure. It's so camp and stilted when when Gable says "frankly my dear don;t give a damn"! roflmao

Two epics I think are on the list -

Charlton Heston in Ben Hur, Kirk Douglas in Spartacus :D Douglas actually drove the production on that film, he made it to rival Ben Hur as he was pissed off he didn't get Heston's role roflmao

Oh yes! It's so long since I saw either that I mix up the actors! I thought Apes was quite well revered as a film, at least most of my friends seem to love it. It deserves a prize for best ending in a movie if you ask me - you really don't realise you are on Earth until the Liberty Statue appears on the beach and how shocking is that? GREAT film.

Terrific film, Amadeus, with wonderful music. Great intro, actually, to classical music and opera.

Awfully hard to decide what one's favourite Oscar-winning film is :yikes: GWTW is a film I watch at 15 year intervals with a box of chocolates and a box of tissues. Casablanca a much better film IMO. Can watch that every year :D

I think one of the reasons I loved it so much and nearly picked it, is just because how much I had to think about it when doing it for my essay. It was all about old gods versus new gods in those plays I mentioned - and I just found the whole thing very powerful as a result.

I would love to see it on stage - especially after going to see Equus - took my breath away.

thats why my mate got me tickets to go and see Equus last Saturday - and truly remarkable it was too. :)

I really liked Amadeus - watched it in music class a long time ago. Dunno that i would have picked it as my favourite oscar winning film mind you.....

I'd really like to see Amadeus but I've never managed to catch it on TV. Sounds good. :)
