A few interesting results from Rotterdam today:

Youzhny beat Berdych, Vliegen beat Nieminen (although Vliegen does appear to be in pretty good form at the moment) and Mayer beat Hrbarty!

Also saw that Hewitt has withdrawn from this event - injured......

Hmm ... Kohlschreiber put out Stepanek in a tight encounter 7-6, 7-6. I was quite impressed when I saw Kohlschreiber play a while ago.

Youzhny beats Ferrer 6-2 7-5

Djokovic beats Robredo 4-6 64 7-5

Djoko vs Robredo was a nice match to watch, good rallies, good offense from Djoko, good defense from Robredo. In the end the more attacking player deservedly won.

Still, the more I see of Robredo, the less I'm surprized by his high ranking. It may not look very spectacular, but he's a very good allround player: decent first serve, extremely solid on both wings, decent volley, decent touch.

What I noticed today is that he's very energy-efficient in his defense: he stays low, he uses the opponents pace, gives himself time by slowing the ball down and keeping it low if he's being sent from one corner to another. It's not easy to just blast the ball through him, you really have to put the ball past him.

So the semis are:

Djokovic vs. Youzhny

Davydenko vs. Ljubicic

Those are both pretty interesting match-ups, although I'd expect Djokovic to win his match. Not sure about the Davydenko vs. Ljubicic match - could definitely be an interesting one!

Youzhny beats Djokovic 3-6 7-6 (9-7) 7-5!

Djokovic had three matchpoints: one in the 2nd set tiebreak and two on Youzhny's serve at 5-4 in the third. The first one he wasted himself, but numbers 2 and 3 were saved by two absolutely brilliant points from Youzhny. In the end Youzhny just looked the fitter player of the two.

It was a great match to watch!

Bravo Mikhail!!

Youzhny stuns Ljubicic in final

Mikhail Youzhny upset Croatian third seed Ivan Ljubicic 6-2 6-4 to win the World Indoor Tournament in Rotterdam.
Russian Youzhny broke the Croatian's service twice to clinch the first set in 30 minutes at the Ahoy Arena.

A break in the fifth game of second set proved enough to seal his first title since he won in St Petersburg in 2004.

Youzhny's first win against Ljubicic in seven matches will put him back in the top 20 ATP when the latest rankings are announced on Monday.

Ljubicic looked lacklustre after his three sets semi-final win over world number three Nikolay Davydenko on Saturday.

Looks like Mikhail is doing a "Gonzalez".
Their careers seems to really have started at the age of 24
