Title: Memphis
Description: who will win??
Scotsguy - February 17, 2007 02:33 PM (GMT)
The draw has been announced and obviously it's fairly similar to San Jose- a lot of the same players.
(1)Roddick vs T.Johansson
Becker vs Kendrick
Guccione vs Lu
Qualifier vs (6)Melzer
(3)Murray vs Dancevic
Pless vs Kunitsyn
Koubek vs Greul
Qualifier vs (8)Ginepri
(5)Malisse vs Qualifier
Kuznetsov vs Qualifier
Del Potro vs Lopez
Phau vs (4)Fish
(7)Benneteau vs Lee
Karlovic vs Querrey
Goldstein vs Delic
Spadea vs (2)Haas
So Roddick has tough opener and could possibly play Becker for the second time in less than a week if both win their semis this week. We could be in for another Roddick vs Murray semi but Dancevic is no mug and then Murray could face Pless again and a quarter against Ginepri could be tough
Slightly weaker lower half of the draw but Malisse has had a great start to the season, Del Potro vs Lopez is an interesting opener, as is Karlovic vs Querrey. Spadea hasnt been playing badly but Haas should be fne especially considering his davis cup exploits last week.

Wohoo Murray has entered in this tournie too if he could win San Jose and this it would be great to win back to back tournies but we will have to see.

The doubles draw is out as well both Jamie Murray and James Auckland are playing.
(1)Erlich/Ram vs Moody/Perry
Butorac/Murray vs Fisher/Parrot
(4)Aspelin/Linstedt vs Auckland/Haggard
Benneteau/T.Johansson vs Ginepri/Kendrick
Becker/Kunitsyn vs Goldstein/Thomas
Armando/Malisse vs (3)Cermak/Levinsky
Lopez/Querrey vs Kerr/Skoch
Lipsky/MArtin vs (2)Knowle/Melzer
SO tough draws for both brits-Auckland with a new partner due to Huss' injury, their oponents Aspelin/Linstedt are 4th seeds but lost in the first round of San Jose, add to this the good form of Haggard who has just reached the final there. Also because of the new rules doubles seeding doesn't count for all that much anymore such is unpredictability.
However I'm not sure this idea counts when facing one of the most established pairings on the tour, Erlich/Ram the top seeds are potential 2nd round opponents for J.Murray/Butorac-who despite their good form would find it tough against these two.

Xavier-he's been hot hot hot!
Seriously, he has the potential to be in the top 10-such a complete game...

obviously, given his super form this week in San Jose, Karlovic will be another one of these dangerous floaters. He has a reasonable draw and should be able to make a good run. In terms of Karlovic, Querrey is the most dangerous man in the quarter (even more so than Haas, as Karlovic tends to play better against stronger opposition), if he can get past Querrey, i can possibly see a final against Murray (again). Go Ivo!
Also, its disappointing Karlovic is not defending his doubles title with haggard this year. but that might have been part of the problem last year with his injury when he won a lot of doubles and singles matches at the start of the season and perhaps over-played.

Interesting to see another possible Semis meeting for Murray and Roddick!

You know what.. I wouldn't be too surprised to see a repeat of the final in San Jose here in Memphis..
Although I think Murray may find that he doesn't have enough in the tank to win two tournaments back to back.

A Rod will get his revenge on Murray in the semis and then win the title I have no doubt about that ;)
