Title: Murray - Roddick ?
Description: San Jose
WimbledonAce - February 16, 2007 07:41 PM (GMT)
Looks as though Andy is on course for a semi final against A-Rod. I would think the winner of the title would come from this match. Any thoughts on the outcome? After last year I think Andy (M) has a vey good chance of coming through with a shot to defend his title. Would be great if he could. 1st though good luck against Lee :ok:

Murray will beat Roddick i think if they meet but it will be a tough one for him.I feel Murray is way too solid for Roddick and then he makes errors because he becomes inpatient.
ark_28 - February 16, 2007 11:57 PM (GMT)
I have said before Roddick will win IF they meet, he has won their last match and is in way better form that when he played Murray In San Jose Last Year and Wimby, to be honest this title is now A Rods to lose With Blake out he was the one guy I felt in the draw could have stopped A Rod here.
vivahate - February 17, 2007 06:10 AM (GMT)
roddick could and should be better on the day, andy r. in 3...

We shall see.
As I said before, I will probably give the slight edge to A-Rod, but it's going to be a close affair, and I certainly think A-Mur has a good chance as well.
As so often these days, it'll probably just depend on who shows up sharper. I'll be disappointed if this isn't a 3-setter.

Its interesting none of their matches so far have gone the distance, either man has won in straight sets, I can see Andy R winning in two tight sets something like 7-5 6-4 one break in each set being enough with the way he is serving, Murray is an excellent retunrner but the courts are said to be playing mighty fast coupled with when Andy R is serving at his best I dont care who yo are its not coming back, a gret example was the first two sets in Shaghai against Federer Andy was serving Roger off the court!

chetanpv - February 18, 2007 04:24 AM (GMT)
wow..just saw the score and Murray is a set and a break up. This is not as expected..Thought Roddick would win easily.
chetanpv - February 18, 2007 04:38 AM (GMT)
Amongst all the young guns coming up, Murray would be the one giving Roger Federer the most trouble.
Brad Gilbert's a genius.
mightyjeditribble - February 18, 2007 06:57 AM (GMT)
Andy (Murray)
Didn't go to a three-setter, it seems, but that tie-break looks a bit like an epic ...
mightyjeditribble - February 18, 2007 07:12 AM (GMT)
Now watch him lose against Karlovic ...
I reckon Ivo is a dangerous player to play for the first time; playing against someone that height must be so different. They should really raise the net when he is serving, to be fair. :P

Murray has some impressive stats for this match firing 14 aces to just 9 from Roddick. He won 89% of points on his first serve compared to just 83% from Roddick and 43% on sedcond serve compared to just 24% frim Andy R,
petalp - February 18, 2007 08:41 AM (GMT)
Well done Andy Murray!!
He's definitely reaping the rewards of his hard work with coach, yet another win over a top 5 player. :ok:
Mkkreuk - February 18, 2007 08:54 AM (GMT)
The title should be murray's now. Andy's pretty good at beating big servers and ivo should not pose that many problems although the faster san jose courts will help Ivo (its been an ace fest!).
Murray is probably in the top 5, definitely top 10 in terms of his returning game and i cant see Ivo capitalising on murray's low % of first serves. I would be disappointed if he was beaten by karlovic - it would be a poor loss. He'd need a choke of gargantuan proportions (ala James Blake) to lose this one.
this is his 5th final i think and he's only won one (losing bangkok 05 to RF, washington 06 to Clement and Doha 07 to Ljubicic) so he needs to redress the balance

Did anyone alse watch the match? I did and all I can say is what a wierd match!! The stats seem to give a different story but I will tell you what I thought anyway - bear in mind this was 3 - 4.45 in the morning so I may not have been with it! A Rod seemed to be playing better, his serving was on fire and had Murray under pressure a lot on his serve. It looked like he would be the likely winner. Murray looked knackered, his serve was all over the shop, could barely get a 1st serve in at one point! I think it basically came down to Murray winning the big points. A - Rod had several set points in the tie break, I thought he had it in the bag and somehow Murray came through. Then in the 2nd set Murray got a break, A Rod had a chance to break back and suddenly Murray fires down 2 aces! I was like how on earth can you do that when you can't get a 1st serve in for ages?! He really did perform on the big points and totally held his nerve to serve it out. What was also funny was the normally loud Murray was silenced by the chunterring A Rod, obviously becoming frustrated, poor bloke!
So a great match to watch, really worth getting up for and well done Andy Murray, well fought, a great win  And as I said out loud at the end of the match - poor A Rod, not really much more he could have done. Bring on Ivo!!!!
Pebs - February 18, 2007 12:11 PM (GMT)
Well done Murray indeed.
thanks for the match report WA.
Just need to knock the giant down now and its all yours! :)
Dinky Jo - February 18, 2007 12:15 PM (GMT)
Well done Murray indeed!!!
Sounds like Murray needs to sort out his first serve - he ended up with problems with that in his match against Nadal as well, especially when he was put under pressure.
And I know it's a wee bit belated, but Safin
Big Al - February 18, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
 Well done Andy. He hit his fastest serve the other day of 145 mph as well.
chokapova - February 18, 2007 12:30 PM (GMT)
Yes well done Andy!
I didnt think he could beat Roddick again as he has improved this year himself. But great to see him into the final and well done to Jamie for reaching the doubles final! :D

Ark has been very quiet since the victory for Murray. :P
A great peformance from Murray but Karlovic will be no pushover on his day he has proved he can beat the very best. :)

Obviously Im dissapointed the result didnt go the way I wanted, and I felt Andy R had chances in the 1st set, but I have to give credit to Murray he played the bigger points better and did what he had to do so congratualations to Murray and all Murray fans! hopefully if they meet again next week as they are seeded to in Memphis Andy R can get some revenge :)
As for the final I would give Murray the edge he returns serve so well, but from time to time big servers on fast sufaces cann suprisingly give Murray trouble Gimblestob is a good example of that he beat him at Newport last year, id say its 60-40 in Murrays favour.
Murraynator - February 18, 2007 07:37 PM (GMT)
At the end when both Andys shook hands i heard Andy Murray say to Andy Roddick "i dont want it to be a problem".I didnt see any disagreements in the match i just wondered what all that was about.
