It's great isn't it! Really fun, and Sinatra is in this one alongside Kelly and the lesser known Munshin :) I love the fact that Anne Miller gets a decent role for once. Did you knwo she held the record for most number of taps per minute as a dancer? terrific dancer, surprised she never got more lead roles. Ditto the lady who plays the cab driver - cant; remember her name though, Eva Marie of something?

Jack Nicholson is hilarious in the Shining.
The Dav - February 18, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
Right, the vote is over, and finally the judges have got something to do roflmao
It's between On The Town and The Godfather, I'll send PMs the the judges now, and if we have a decision in an hour, then I'll announce the result :D
The Dav - February 18, 2007 08:47 PM (GMT)
Right, 2/3 judges have voted and since they both voted the same, a 3rd vote is not needed...
Sadly we say goodbye to Mo, who was given 'On The Town' by SB, it was a good choice, but perhaps too unknown :)
The winner is WB, who was given 'The Shining' by Pebs (Great choice by Pebs  ), Pebs also moves through with 'The Terminator' given by Mo, and SB with 'The Godfather' given by WB :)
Nick Havoc - February 18, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
Wow. That was a good group of films. I'm quite surprised that "The Shining" took over half the votes. I thought it would be a bit more split than that.

I know....I couldn't have picked a clear winner personally.
Well done WB/Pebs
Commiserations Mo :(
The Dav - February 18, 2007 09:02 PM (GMT)
Right, next theme :D
As the Oscars are next week, this round's theme is Oscar-winning films :D You must pick a film that won Best Picture, and it can't have been used before so that rules out The Godfather, American Beauty, etc. :)
Once the choices are in, I'll put up a poll :)
Nick Havoc - February 18, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
Oohh . . . Can we give suggestions??

Sorry Mo, I feel bad cos I picked yours. I did it in good faith though as I know you love it. :D Not sure what Dav's on about saying it is not too well known though! Anyway it was close and down to the judges. Not sure I could pick between On the Town and the Godfather, two totally different kettles of fish.
Thanks also to WB for picking a very good film for me and not going for a turkey. :D

Thats ok SB, no hard feelings honest.......
:mw:
 I had a feeling that movie was chosen for me, so did vote for it B) B) Haven't seen the Shining for ages and ages, so wasn't sure if to vote for that, as couldn't recall HOW much I had enjoyed it   Not a huge fan of the Godfather movies. I chose Terminator for Pebs as it was the first film to pop into my head, so I stuck with it. Not a bad choice either. :D

Have to say whilst the Shining is a great movie (always getting voted No 1 in these horror polls) it is not my fave. I don't find it that scary. I saw it last week and it was even less scary than I thought! roflmao The story is great, as is most Stephen King, and the set and scenery are fab. Maybe it's a bit too Hollywood for me, but it has an iconic horror scene in it with 'Here's Johnny" that everyone knows. :D I wanted to chose Chainsaw Massacre (original) but I did tno think you'd appreciate that as I knw you are nto mad on horror.
I LOVE Terminator, and T2. Very interesting and original storyline and whilst Arnie cant; act, he doesn't need to. Must say at the time that scared me more than the Shining! That Terminator thing is pretty ruthless and frightening. I watch it a lot and enjoy it every time. Good choice :D And that Michael Biehn is quite sexy.
I do like Godfather cos they are spectacularly well shot and acted dramatic movies. My favourite though is GF 2. Fabulous. :D 4 hours well spent that is.
Guess what I voted for?
Mo aka Mz O'Hara - February 19, 2007 01:32 PM (GMT)
   I stab a guess at Godfather.
I remember the first time I saw Terminator as clear as if it was yesterday. It was being premiered on BBC2 one sunday evening, and I thought I'll give it a go before I trot off to bed. I was hooked within the first few mins, I absolutely loved it and raved about it for days. I had expected to hate it because of the violent scenes I expected to see. Michael Bein as you say was very sexy and cute in that role   and no one in the world could play the Terminator except Arnie, totally made for him. Loved T2 for the liquid metal special effects and the ironic humour carried through from T1 and the police uniform was quite nice too B)
Chainsaw Massare, never seen it, don't like too much graphic gore myself as spend half the time with my hands in front of my face. Strangely I don't mind gore when it comes to vampire movies. I love Van Helsing, Lost Boys and From Dusk till Dawn

Nick Havoc - February 19, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
I can tell you, though, that it's not a recent one. We don't rent movies much, and since I had a kid in '98, I haven't been out to very many non-kid movies. I was looking at the list of winners and nominated films, and from 1998 forward, I have seen none of the winning films and only one of the nominated films.
The other thing that struck me, looking at that list, was that (IMO) 1994 was a very good year. You had Forrest Gump winning the Oscar, The Shawshank Redemption (which I think should have won), Pulp Fiction, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Quiz Show.

oh Dav it is a GREAT movie. Haven't seen it on the tv for years though :( The dancing is spectuacular the songs are sooo great and the characters work brilliantly together with lots of humour too. Gene Kelly's character (whilst on 24 shore leave with 2 friends, falls in love with a girl he sees on a poster at the train station, and sets out to try and find her in New York with about 23 hrs 30 mins shore leave left. :o

Well no, I voted for your choice - the Terminator! How ironic is that cos if I hadn't done you might not have gone out! Sorry :( but you did make an excellent choice :D And it was a tough choice, but I went with my heart. :)
Oddly despite liking slasher flicks I hate Dawn till Dusk and Van Helsing. Too much action-violence for me.

I know what you mean, but i thought the remake was scarier in that it seemed so much more isolated, even the local sherriff was evil and wanted to kill them, and those creepy neighbours :yikes:
liam_valid - February 19, 2007 05:00 PM (GMT)
Did you ever see a film called wrong turn? It was in a similar vein to massacre, but i thought it was superior to both. I think it was released about 5 years ago
