My tip is...Baghdatis. Hes in form now and was able to rest this week.
The other contenders, apart from Davydenko should be tired after the Davis cup. However, Ill be supporting Sebastien Grosjean and Fabulous Santoro.
...But will Arnaud Clement stupefy us again? Who knows...Anything is possible in the tennis world...

a gasquet/djokovic final would be sweet

Davydenko has a pretty tough quarter tbh, but I can well see him coming through. However, I don't know why he wasn't playing Davis Cup, so is there perhaps a health issue? In any case, Soderling, T Johansson and Gasquet could all be quite a challenge; if not Davydenko, then probably Gasquet will come through to the semis.
Ancic hasn't been in such good form during the DC, and he must be tired coming into this, and might still be nursing a cold. I can see him falling, and either Bjorkman or Hewitt to come out of this one (go Jonas!)
Baghdatis v Djokovic looks like it could be a nice QF, although Novak might well fall to Youzhny in the first round if he's not sharp. I'm rooting for Baggy to come through this quarter!
Ljubicic also hasn't been all that great lately, and he's had to play three matches in three days in his DC tie. This might be the most open quarter of all. I'd like to see Jarkko come through actually :) but I don't think that's gonna happen. I still think I'd give Ljubo the edge, but not sure.

Youzhny has beaten Djokovic :yahoo:
It reflects what I felt (and Fed also, by his comments after the Djoko match): Djoko is a good player, but it seemed unfair that everyone was talking about him, whereas no-one seemed to think about Misha. He's a good player and deserves some good results.
:bigwave:

tight loss for djokovic, 3rd set tiebreak to youzhny

Ljubicic gets crushed by French sensation Nicolas Mahut 4-6 4-6!
The downfall of pretty boy continues

No.1 seed Davydenko, out in 3 to Soderling
No.2 seed Ljubicic, out in straights to Mahut
No.3 seed Ancic, 0-4 down in the first set
Whats going on in France? The top seeds last week in Paris went out in the semis, the top seeds here out in the round of 32 :o

Not so surprised about Ljubicic and Ancic, they've had a tough weekend ...
Pity about Kolya ... I would have liked to see him do better here, although I always knew Soderling would be dangerous.
Apparently Davydenko said that he didn't actually get a chance to practice on the Centre Court before his match :yikes: and that he was surprised by the way the surface played.
Hewitt just got broken in the first game of his match.
Then Gasquet is playing ... things might look a lot better for him to win at home now. :P
But then again, he might join all the others in going out in the first round ...
Murraynator - February 14, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
Lleyton Hewitt just won the second set of his match with Michael Llodra winning it 6-1 but that was after losing the first set 6-4 so it has gone into a 3rd set.

Hewitt just won the 3rd set and the match 6-4.
mightyjeditribble - February 14, 2007 09:17 PM (GMT)
Well done, Lleyton! Who knows, this might be his comeback tournament. With a lot of the big names out, there aren't all that many people I wouldn't say he has a good chance of beating (on a good day, of which he doesn't seem to have enough recently).
Gasquet could now be the greatest threat in the top half of the draw, although Bjorkman could be a bit of a dark horse there as well.
Baghdatis is probably the favorite to come out of the bottom half :yahoo:, although Youzhny might have an outside chance if he's on form (and given Baggy's consistency, which isn't always fabulous).
It's not inconceivable that Hewitt could reach the final. I don't think him beating Gasquet is out of the question (their only meeting was when Lleyton won in the USO last year). Hewitt has a lot of determination, and I think Gasquet can sometimes lack the mental grit to match that (although he did almost come back from two sets down at the USO, I suppose).
Anyway, I'm still rooting for Baggy for the title! :yahoo:
Tenez - February 14, 2007 10:04 PM (GMT)
I watched the second set of Gasquet v Hernich. A bit disappoiting from Gasquet who though he made it, could have won much more easily as Hernych made many easy mistakes.
I like Gasquet but he has not turned into a great player yet. I am even surprised he is that highly ranked.
Maybe it was a bad day in the office. More of it tomorrow.
Great free webstreaming from the website though.

Robin :yahoo:
If only Jonas could have won, this would have been my favorite SF constellation for this tournament ... :)
Scotsguy - February 18, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
Well Simon ended up beating Bahdatis in the final 6-4 7-6 :o and so it's the second year in a row an unseeded frenchman has won the tourney....
