Title: Is Serena Pulling a 2005?

chairman - February 11, 2007 04:12 PM (GMT)
Please feel free to discuss. Is Serena still being a tourist or is she really sick? She has had this flu since the AO.

dl04 - February 11, 2007 04:14 PM (GMT)
She'll be fine, i never thought she'd play there in india anyway

SerenaW19 - February 11, 2007 04:25 PM (GMT)
She's already played a tier four this year, I wouldn't have expected her to play more than one tier three or four to be honest. She'll most likely stick to slams and tier ones with a few tier twos thrown in.

I am going to be an enemy here but she was very naughty to pull out. Those indians worked thier socks of in preparation to accomodated her. Its the biggest news in bangalore since shilpa shetty got bullied in England. The best tickets have been sold out so I guess she has indirectly done her job. But she should be slightly ashamed of herself sick or not. And just for the record i dont believe for one bit that she is sick.

Isnt the oscars up soon? That is were you are likely to see her next.

Yes I agree it is not fair on the sponsors and those who were hoping to see her there. But as big a pull as she was for the event, people were buying tickets to the Bangalore Open not to see Serena Williams. So the event will go on...

Would've been nice to see Serena in India. Never mind though :)

spam *cough* spam :P

Federer-Williams - February 11, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
She is not going to 'disappear'. She will be there for slams and most tier 1/2s.

Gav - February 11, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
I think the way she pummelled Maria in the final she will want some more of that and will certainly compete more this year than in 2005.

SerenaW19 - February 11, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
Plus of course she was injured for a lot of 2005 and couldn't train let alone enter tournaments, hence all the weight gain...and her outside interests of course

Gav makes a good point too, I think this will be quite a different year from 2005 all in all.

Serena probably only enetered Bangalore as a back-up incase her great Australian return didn't go to plan (and after Hobart she was probably planning an early trip to India) but she found her game - pulled her way through and trounced Maria in the end.....so now she can re-evaluate her schedule and return to playing slams with a sprinkling of tier I's and tier II's (as the Williams' have always done).

I hope she doesn't do a 2005, but I also don't want her to do a 2002/2003 - I have been enjoying this period of flux in the womens game - makes slams less predictable :)

I hope she does do a 2002-2003!

i know what you mean, with no one dominating, results are more uncertain, but i think it's great when you have two or three at the top, competing for the big prizes.
i loved it when hings/davernport were the top two, with Venus troubling them from time to time, it was great, i always wanted lindsey. That kind of thing could be good with Serena and Henin, it was boring with Serena and Venus as Serena kept winning in what were often unattractive matches.

Serena-Henin would be a great rivalry. Not many can compete with either though except for Venus if she gets back.

I personally prefer domination a la Federer to new slam winners everytime. BUt i don't mind if tere's a mix of 2/3 rivalry for it.

petalp - February 11, 2007 10:19 PM (GMT)
Winning the AO will be proof that Serena can win any tournament that she puts her mind to this year. If she pulls out of events, whether illness, injury or otherwise, then that's her prerogative. I doubt that her schedule will be particularly cluttered either.

That's her tennis schedule rather than her clothing design or acting schedule of course ;)

mmm, think i agree with what you say about Fed, i'll change my mind so we can keep fed at the top.

After this Dubai thing, she is pulling a 2005. Defo

metaphysical - February 27, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
Hope Serena isnt' pulling a 2005, she's so good for the game at the best player when she's on form, but i do worry she might be.
She is often cited as not being committed enough to the game, i hope that's not true either, that would be a big shame.
