Title: Serena/Venus Withdraw
SW2003 - February 10, 2007 12:06 PM (GMT)
As sort of expected, Serena (with a bad flu) and Venus (wrist... still) have pulled out of the Bangalore Open and the Antwerp Diamond Games respectively.
It is a bug shame as I as looking forward to their wins but could this just be a continuation of their excuses to not play? It certainly seems that Serena has a very good excuse this time though Venus doesnt seem that bothered any more... lets hope that Im wrong and that they will both come back stronger than ever!

BIG-TODGER - February 10, 2007 05:56 PM (GMT)
It's the end of an era, which is a shame as they both ad a great deal to the game.
Is there a WTA tour for the retired players?

Should be interesting to see if Serena plays at the French and whether she goes in with limited preperation.Although at the Aussie she did it like that and crushed Maria easily in the final.
SW2003 - February 13, 2007 05:40 PM (GMT)
I hardly think that Serena and Venus are going to retire simply because they have an injury... Serena definately not as she simply has an illness and should be back very soon, Venus though has been out since Wimbledon really with this injury so I really am starting to worry about her...
Hopefully that is simply just my worry and she will be back to win some tournaments this year... as for Serena... my prediction of a Serena Slam 2007 looks good! :P
SerenaW19 - February 13, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
Of course they're not retiring
I just can't wait til Venus comes back and does a Serena to shut everyone up :D
felixsanchez - February 13, 2007 06:10 PM (GMT)
I really would love Venus to win one more slam, just so she isn't categorised with hingis and Henin! :P

Coming eight out of nowhere to win a slam is the Williams sisters specialities! Wouldn't surprise me if venus won a slam this year!
Martina just can't cut it at the top!

erm, who's higher?
Look, Hingis missed 3 YEARS, and Venus still couldn't over-take her
felixsanchez - February 13, 2007 08:12 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah and Venus played regularly!
How many olympic gold medals does martina have?
Fed cup?
ObL!v!0N - February 13, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
She only played once in the Olympics, when she was 15. I bet she would have given Venus a run for her money in the 2000 Olympics. Same with Fed Cup, she last played in 1998, when Switzerland were the runners up.
Besides, how many weeks at No.1 has Venus had? How many titles does Venus have?
No point trying a slagging match with me, coz you won't win. Just ask DL ;)
felixsanchez - February 13, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
OK!
We won't argue! cause i would just win, i am a teenager, it is practically my occupation to fight! :P
And everybody knows Venus is better anyway! My serve is better than Martinas! roflmao

Serena always gets convenient flu when she can't be bothered to go to a certain tournament. :D
SW2003 - February 23, 2007 04:44 PM (GMT)
It is a shame that she pulled out the Dubai Championships which she was going to go to as well with flu... I thought that she might have turned a corner with her Oz win... oh well... some things never change. :(

Still though... Venus and Serena can just turn up at Slams and win them... literally!
Venus - Wimbledon 2005
Serena - Australian Open 2005, 2007
Martina won all of her slams earlier on in her career and has won very little since but all credit to her, she is a great player but I would only class her as a teenage prodigy that did extreamly well whereas you have Venus and Serena, who if they put their minds to it, could still win around 3 more Slams each.

In other news,Venus reaches the Memphis Final on return!
Hows that for interest!
