So, here are the results from the first day's play:

Chile vs. Russia - 0-2

Both Safin ( ) and Andreev won, with Andreev beating Gonzo! I would expect Chile to win the doubles, and then we can look forward to Safin vs. Gonzo!!! :yahoo:

France vs. Romania - 2-0

So both Gasquet and Grosjean won, although Grosjean really had to fight Pavel for his victory!

Germany vs. Croatia - 1-1

See MJT, told you Germany wouldn't do too badly! :P Haas beat Ancic in 4 and then Ljubicic beat Becker in 4. Doubles are Kohlmann/Waske vs. Ancic/Ljubicic. Gonna be a tiring weekend for those 2 Croatians!!

Czech Rep vs. USA - 1-1

I think Nick and Chet may have discussed this on the live scoring thread, so i'll make this quick. Roddick won and Berdych beat Blake. Bryan bros. tomorrow!

Switzerland vs Spain - 1-1

Not quite the excitement i think we were all hoping for when the draw was announced. No Nadal, no Fed.....However, Chiudinelli managed to beat Verdasco in 4, but Ferrer drew Spain level by beating Bohli in straight sets.

Belarus vs Sweden 0-2

Straight sets victories for both Soderling and Johansson. The double tomorrow may be interesting, as both teams have doubles specialists playing - in fact, they have Miryni for Belarus and Bjorkman for Sweden, who normally play together! Should be very interesting.....

Austria vs. Argentina 0-2

Both Canas and Acasuso winning in straight sets, although I think the Austrian performance is slightly disappointing 'cos neither Melzer nor Koubek are that bad.....

Australia vs. Belgium - 0-2

Most shocking result of the day - Vliegen beating Hewitt in 5 sets! Another nail in the Hewitt coffin. And O Rochus has just beaten Guccione in straight sets! Not looking good for the Aussies

Just a quick update on all the results for yesterday. Apparently (says the Davis Cup website) this is the first time in the history of the World Group -that would be 27 years - that all ties have been "live" going in to the final day. So here's the results from yesterday and the matches for today:

Chile vs. Russia 1-2

The Chilean's - Gonzo and Massu - beat the Russians in straight sets in the doubles. The matches today are Gonzo vs. Safin and Massu vs. Andreev. Could be interesting to see how Safin does against Gonzo.....

France vs. Romania 2-1

The Romanians won the doubles - 11-9 in the 5th set! Today's matches are Gasquet vs. Pavel and Grojsean vs. Hanescu, so I for one would be a wee bit surprised if France lost this one!

Germany vs. Croatia 2-1

The Germans are doing a bit better than expected here, having won the doubles in straight sets. Today's matches are Haas vs. Ljubicic and Ancic vs. Becker. This could all be very interesting and I don't know that i would be able (or willing) to predict who will win this tie.

Belgium vs. Australia 2-1

So an easy win in the double for Hewitt/Hanley. Today's matches are Hewitt vs. O Rochus - based on Hewitt's recent form i wouldn't take any bets on him winning this one. Then there's Guccione vs. Vliegen. I'm sure Vliegen has taken confidence from his victory over Hewitt, so this could be a slightly surprising victory for the Belgians.

Czech Republic vs. USA 1-2

No surprises - the Bryans won in straight sets to give the USA a 2-1 lead. Today's matches are Berdych vs. Roddick and Blake vs. Minar. I would really expect Roddick to wrap this one up, but Berdych appears to be playing well, so it could come down to Blake......I'd still predict a US victory here.

Swizterland vs. Spain 1-2

A fairly tough doubles rubber here, with the Spanish team winning 12-10 in the 5th set. Today's matches are Bohli vs. Verdasco and Chiuidinelli vs. Ferrer. The Swiss pair certainly don't have the big match experience of Verdasco and Ferrer, so i reckon that Verdasco could win this for the Spanish

Belarus vs. Sweden 1-2

So in the battle of the doubles partners, Miryni came out on top - with Belarus winning in 4. Today's matches are Miryni vs. Soderling and Voltchkov vs. Johansson. Miryni has some chance against Soderling, but I would expect Johansson to wrap this one up for the Swedes.

Austria vs. Argentina 1-2

The Austrians managed to win the doubles rubber in 4 yesterday. Today's matches are Melzer vs. Acasuso and Koubek vs. Canas. I'm not really sure I could call this one, but based on Friday's performances, you've gotta give it to the Argentinians.

Now, wait for me to come back later on and have to eat my words...... :P
