Does anyone remember a shot Steffi Graf hit against Sabatini in the 1991 Wimbledon final. It always burns in my mind as one of the great shots by a player of either gender but I've not seen it since and can't track it down on YouTube.

In that match, Sabatini twice served for the championship. Each time, Graf broke back. I think this shot came when Graf broke the Argentinian at 6 games all. I remember Sabatini coming to net with a deep approach shot that bounced very low. Graf was falling away backwards and had to adjust to the low bounce and somehow hit a screaming forehand winner past Sabatini at net. Considering the pressure of the moment, I thought it was a truly miraculous shot. Anyone confirm or deny all this or am I remembering it wrongly?

I've never seen this match, but it is one I plan to buy on DVD at some point. I will let you know whenever I get it :lol:

I remember watching that match. Although I can't remember that exact shot you are talking about I certainly remember some amazing shot making from Steffi under pressure.

That was the year of the second German double at Wimbledon, I was not happy though as it was Stich and not Becker who completed that double, with Becker screarming and swearing at himself in German throughout a 3 set drubbing from Stich in the men's final.

If you guys are talking about that Wimbledon final between these 2 then Gav dont buy it as its not even that great.I watched and wasnt impressed even though the score was 8-6 in the 3rd.

Sabitini use to kinda moonball serve and that was funny.Her serve was worse than Hingis!

I agree it wasn't a great match until the last six games when Graf was really up against it and pulled out some astonishing shots.

I remember grinding my teeth with frustration during the first two and a bit sets though.

My favorite is steffi double bagelling Natasha Svereva i 1988 F.O final. I mean, thrashing somebody like that in a grand slam! I dot know if anybody has ever done that in a G.S final.

oddly my fave. steffi memory is USO 95 final v. monica on her grand slam return. steffi showed some class that day and some great tennis. such a solid game, great competitor and mentally tough. a true champion (despite that mid set bagel :wacko: ).

now as for RG 99, don't even GO THERE :tsk: :tsk: :tsk:

what i remeber most about that match was Zvereva was smiling throughout. Any of todays players would be swearing and throwing their racquets about, but Natasha knew she had no chance and just enjoyed being in the final, she was a class act and i used to love her doubles matches :wub:
