Sammy is doing really well here - beating Li Na who is such a solid player - must be her serve doing the damage.
Well done to Fran for taking a set of Masha - hopefully this is a sign the Schiavone is getting her form back
Poor Makiri - losing both her singles and doubles today :(

kirilenko disappoints. welshboy won't be happy. she's still way too inconsistent. but sugiyama is a quality player.
stosur/na li could have went either way, but i still like martina's chances in that quarter.
i'd really like to see her get back at elena for last year's final
ivanovic/jankovic should be a nice one.

Apparently Maria hit 17 double faults :o
So she did well to pull through :ok:
I'm not too surprised that Stosur beat Li, because of course an indoor fast surface like this does wonders for her serve. And the carpet also benefits Vinci; she's very tough to play when the ball stays low and the court plays at this speed.

Makiri
Its good to see Ai doing well again though :ok:

Makiri and Ai pretty much play the same kind of game, speed and defense, and of course constructing the angles( especially off the backhand side). This match could've goner either way and it went to the veteran :D
Bit dissapointed about Li. Not a natural fast-court player with her big swings, but i do feel her shots move off the court so fast. Obviosly though, Stosur's serve can also do damage on a fast court......

Stosur is extremely dangerous on these fast courts. Her serve is probably one of the best on tour

its a great serve, less underated because its less consistent and the groundstrokes that follow dont really match up to the elite. One of the best on fast surfaces though along with Venus, Serena, Maria, Lindsay etc :)

Its a shame she concentrates more on doubles, she has the potential to be a top 16 player.

Good results today and pleased Stosur took out Li as this will be good for Martina as I think she has too much court craft for Sam. :D
Hoping Elena will defend her title although like any tournament with The Cheat in it I dont mind who wins as long as it's not her. roflmao
