Title: Wimby - Tim's Swansong?

styeffo - June 1, 2006 07:54 AM (GMT)
Hey folks, i'm sure this will bring many ludicrous posts (hope not).

But having seen bits of yesterdays match against Tursunov, i feel that time has caught Tim up, he seemed to be running all over the shop just to get the ball, never mind actually playing a worthwhile shot.

I hate to say it, but i feel that maybe Wimby should be where he calls it a day, i would love him to prove me wrong but i feel that he would do well to get to the Q/F never mind any further.

It's a sad thing, but i think he's in danger of being cannon fodder for the up and coming youngsters, and he was a classy player and shouldn't end it like that!

Hmmm.. I was sorta thinking that yesterday but I was undecided as to what is happening, is Henman just playing a different sorta game these days, trying to match people (like Tursonov) from the back rather than play his usual game, attacking and moving forward?

I wouldn't mind watching a few of the 2004 French matches of Tim just to compare style of play. I imagine back then he was using the whole of the court a lot more and attacking the net more.

If he is trying to match them like that, i don't think it's working!!!

better today, but still feel the same, sadly.

I think he played great today, and I started a thread on it. I was impressed anyway and really enjoyed it. Sure time has caught up with him, but he will nto retire this year. He will want to give himself a chance to show himslef at his best I feel, and he has had a couple of bad years where he has not been able to do that. He may change his mind if he does well at Wimby.

The huge shame for me though is that with the ranking, he gets tricky but less capable opponents like Tursunov early on so it is gettign harder and harder for him to have a good slam run. I hope he gets one though, becasue I dont; think what he did today was worthy of a second round exit, I honestly don't.

it's a moot point. he's stated repeatly that he's carrying on for another couple of years and there's no reason to doubt that he means it. i get the sense that he's on the brink of finding really good form at the moment and he wants to keep going until he hits paydirt. hopefully he'll do that.
