Title: Americans on Clay

Nick Havoc - May 31, 2006 09:35 PM (GMT)
The US men are not looking too good once again at RG. Roddick summed it up pretty well with this quote, that I lifted from the BBC site:

QUOTE
"Whatever I said last year, just copy it."
Andy Roddick is asked for a reaction to five American men losing in the first round.

Doesn't seem to promising for one of the two who made it to the second round. Kevin Kim faces Nadal next. So, he's out. Blake has a chance to advance, but will be doing well to get past Almagro. Sadly, I think the tournament will continue to receive limited coverage here, if there is not a US hopeful to cheer for.

And this year it's not much more promising on the women's side . . . . (But you can't count out Venus just yet.)

Still, losing early gives them more practise on grass - Looking forward to Agassi and Roddick at Queens- talk about looking ahead too much :tsk:

Americans play on fast blue/grey clay and not proper red clay

So they won't broadcast important matches Nick? That seems a bit lame. It is a Grand Slam after all even if it isn't the american player's favorite brand of whisky. We will have to cheer for Venus then!

I Know Nick. I looked at the draw and saw little hope for the USA at RG. Is it down to how they are trained? You seem to have more success on hard and some on grass. You generally cannot be good on every surface though. I thought Ginepri woudl at least come through a couple of matches mind.

Really? Ginepri has been in dire form recently...

Oh, they'll still show some of it, but you get better ratings and therefore more coverage if there are Americans doing well. French Open has never received all that much coverage in the US, anyway.

Yeah bu tI still thought he might do a bit better really, i never saw him going far though if you knwo what I mean LDF. I can;t remember who he lost to know, but i thought he would be the favourite.

I agree with you there - Ginepri was facing Montanes, who is ranked 102 in the world. Even with his poor form, I expected Robby to scrape through, but I guess the Spaniard thrives on the surface...

I knew i should have stuck with Mammit on the sweepstake roflmao

That's OK. Blake seems to have played pretty well today, despite losing the set in a tiebreak. Maybe he'll come through to the next round.

Then, when Kevin Kim upsets Nadal . . . . . .
