Title: Were Navratilova and Shriver doing it?
liam_valid - January 27, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
I always consider these two to be the best doubles pairing. Do you agree? There is always the formidable Williams partnership to challenge for best doubles team, or maybe Hingis/Kournikova. Who do you think is the best ladies doubles team?

Gotta be the Williams sisters!
The brute force of their serves just left easy drive volleys! And it was funny cause they are always unseeded so you the top seeds would go crazy if they got them in the first round!
:P

Hingis & Kournikova = the sex

Well they were beaten by my dream team at Wimbledon in 2003 in 3rd round by Lina Krasnoroutskaya and Elena Dementieva  The Williams' just battered more classic doubles teams off the court...until the Russians did the same to them :D
I always thought Kim and Ai were a pretty solid team. Then there's always Paola and Virigina, another good team.

Nobody can batter the William's sisters off the court! :o :o
Just ask Maria "Hardest Hitter in the modern game" Sharapova!! :P

Well Lina and Elena didn't win the match through finesse and touch play :P The ladies used their athleticism and groundstrokes to beat the Williams'....and yes it was a tight 3 setter so they didn't really batter Serena and Venus...but they still won :)
(and yes Maria was rather lacking a plan B....or an effective plan a)

The title is so misleading. I got all excited for nothing!
Dark_Necrofear - January 29, 2007 08:12 AM (GMT)
For me the 3 best teams in doubles would have to be Ducky duck Shriver and Martina Navratilova (2) Sanchez-Vicario and Jana Novotna and (3) Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva...
These 3 were great!

Good one dark, i forgot about Fernandez and Zvereva. As well as being a great team, they also had great personalities and were always a joy to watch :)

Novotna and Sanchez Vicario without a doubt... very entertaining. Although it got a tad sour after Sanchez beat Jana in the '96 Olympics (I think)
'96??!! Jeez that was eleven years ago... It's all slipping by so fast!
trisco - January 29, 2007 02:17 PM (GMT)
Another fact that brings it home how fast time is going is Hingis made her debut on the tour in 1994!!!! 13 years ago! :o
Dark_Necrofear - January 30, 2007 07:19 AM (GMT)
That very true Trisco...Hingis won her first major 10 years ago and it feel like it was yesterday!
I was shocked!
