Title: Murray's Loss to Monfils
Description: was dissappointing; any views?

I was very dissapointed with how that panned out. Murray was clearly in pain with his back towards the end, but I have concersn about some aspects of his play and feel he really needs a coach right now.

I think he shoudl have won that match, he shoud have got the first two sets under hsi belt reasonably quickly. He was a break up in the first, and had other opportunites which he falied to convert. In the second set, he had no need to go to that tiebreak, and in the third Monfils fell apart.

What I think let him down was his choice of shots, especially when going for the winner, and he seemed unsure of himself on these at times. Also he needed to be a bit more agressive, and soem of his winners lacked the power to make them so. Needed to mix it up as he was relying on the high risk drop shots too much. If he had got this right early on he woudl have won in 3 sets IMO. He did show deft touch and great counterpunching though. He has so much potential I just hope he isn;t going to have it unrealised due to his injuries and bad coaching.

Will he regret getting rid of Mr.Petchey??

I hope that he sorts himself out, or gets an awesome 1st serve....loadsa free points!!!!

Then no danger of 5 sets!!!!

I expected this result really. Murray just can't cope on clay (long matches) and his game style isn't good for clay either (long matches because of this!).

Monfils is a very good player and far better than Murray but to see that he still hasn't managed to get his fitness up to a decent level is rather worrying.

Oh well. GO TIM!

It is ironic though that he trained for clay isn't it? Looking at him he would benefit from being abel to shorten rallies rather than lengthen them with counter punching. I reckon he needs to change his game ot suit grass myself. No chance against Federer but even so more chance fo rhim.

I think Murray exerts himself on the clay far more than he has to. Look at Monfils, he was prepared to run all the day, but knew the matter of finishing the points with a fearsome forehand. Murray doesnt have a strong baseline weapon so its hard...

Yes you are spot on there. That's why I wonder if she shoudl play how he plays - he can't finish off with a strong forehand can he?

when murray's injury was causing him the most pain, he won the set 6-1. after the treatment he was moving much more freely, not feeling the back at all and he got slaughtered. so to blame the injury is a smokescreen. and as for his growing pains excuse for his injury problems, i've never heard any of the other youngsters use that line and it sounds pretty feeble imo. what happened yesterday was simple: andy got beat. again.

His problem seems to be mostly physical . If he had Nadals physique it would make all the difference.
