Title: Why Was Federer so Merciless Today?

Dark_Necrofear - January 25, 2007 12:54 PM (GMT)
Can anyone provide the answers to the above question?

vivahate - January 25, 2007 03:42 PM (GMT)
the same reason a dog licks himself...because he can ;) :D

Federer-Williams - January 25, 2007 04:36 PM (GMT)
Competitive sport is all about continuously building your lead with no let up. Federer is a nice guy but he will destroy you so you cannot have even a glimmer of a chance.

vivahate - January 25, 2007 04:38 PM (GMT)
masterclass.

Perhaps because with all the talk of Roddick closing the gap, and the close result in Shanghai + the Kooyong defeat, Federer just wanted to freshly stamp his authority all over Roddick.

You know, it could be Feds actually improving, it's hard to believe i know but his volleying is was almost faultless today, and his backhand seems to be getting better.
He always raises his game, but seems to be starting from a higher position these days.
He's only lost one match since Wimbledon, he hasn't dropped a set here, and when he won against Rebredo the other day the commentators were talking about how poorly Fed played- so now Fed winning in straights sets but not performing miracles is seen as poor by his standards. Roddick seemed his usual one dimentional self today, he always seems to get out aced by rog because Fed's such a good returner and Rod isn't.
That second set was unbelievable we should relish these performances by Fed, they are history in the making.

He must have been enjoying himself - the ball must have looked like a basketball on a zimmer frame, Roddick must have looked like he was in slowmo wearing a pointer to say what he was doing next, and Fed was seeing what he could do and even surprising himself from time to time.

Opportunities to push the boundaries like that don't come along often - when you are in the zone, enjoy it.

Exactly what I was going to say. Look how he showed Djoko who is boss, I bet Djoko wished he'd kept his gob shut! roflmao

It's Murray i feel sorry for - what's Fed gonna do to him when they next meet to get revenge for his loss? roflmao

Ok, clam down

I think was Federer's Mac moment of 1984 when he destroyed Connors in the Wimbledon Final. I really think people will draw parallels. In all honesty I doubt Federer will manage to play THAT consistently well throughout the final. He'll still perhaps win it in straights.

He was so good today, his (usually poor) challenging with Hawkeye was even superb! roflmao Definitely was seeing the ball 'big' today.. :ok:

So, Federer won, because Roddick's balls looked extra big to him?

ElHuegi - January 25, 2007 11:44 PM (GMT)
God this match was amazing. Let me put this into perspective. At precisely 10 a.m. Swiss time, I turned on the classroom TV to watch a bit of the match during our twenty minute break. The score was 0-0 in set 2. By the time school started again twenty minutes later, the set was over.

Federer dominated so terrifyingly that it only took a twenty minute break to watch an ENTIRE SET. Yes, I know it was a bagle, but a set nonetheless.

Why did Federer stamp Roddick so bad? I reckon he just wanted to tell his doubters: "What dyou mean 'off form'??". Actually probably more like: "I'm sorry you didn't seriously believe I had a chance or losing??? How naive."
Either way I see it an announcment that the King is back from his holiday and he means BUSINESS!

Thanks for the link!

It just wasnt possible to watch the match.......

Dark_Necrofear - January 26, 2007 07:43 AM (GMT)
Like I said before,He wanted to create false hope.Roddick was really on a high.I mean Shanghai and Kooyong that set it form him.Federer mustve snapped in his head and said right, its time to put you back into your cage.

He destroyed this boy and it wasnt funny!
