I'm actually pulling for Serena, but Maria has really done well for herself lately. Even though it looked like she might crash out in the first round, she struggled through and found a way to win that match and has hardly looked back since. It took her a couple years after that Wimbledon title to get back to the final of a slam, but now she's to two slam finals in a row.

It's about time people on here got away from their one-eyed views about sharapova - yes her looks have certainly given her an unfair marketing edge, but it's undeniable that she is at the top of the game, deservedly so, and she has the attributes to be a 10+ slam champ

OK 10+? Let's not get carried away lol

Still... I think Maria should win this final and I REALLY want her to. I'd be sooooooooooooooooooooooooo incredibly happy if she wins.

I can't wait! :D

Does that mean she'll drop me and decapitate me?!!!!

liam_valid - January 26, 2007 07:49 PM (GMT)
Of course, if she wins this, she will only need the FO to complete her set. ~Has anyone ever done that before their 21st birthday?

s_j - January 26, 2007 07:51 PM (GMT)
Imagine if Maria won the Frech Open! LOL!!! One of only 6 women to complete the Grand Slam set (assuming she wins tonight)!

Ooooh... she might even win the Calendar Slam!.... ok... now I'm getting over excited!

barrystar - January 26, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
Maria is more a fast court lady isn't she? RG may be a step too far for her.

Steffi Graf got the grand slam in '88 aged 19 I think.

I'm counting on Serena to hammer Maria. No one likes a cheat and we have now one of the biggest cheats in women's sports never mind tennis getting back the number one ranking!

Maybe the rest of the tour will club together and hire a hit man to take out Yuri. roflmao

She is only getting the number one ranking back because Justine didnt defend her points. Once again she gets the number one ranking back by default!

Not necessarily liam. Yes, they are both power players, but Mary's game is/was much more suited to clay than is Sharapova's.

I don't think Sharapova will ever win The French, particulalry matches where she leads someone like Safina 5-1 in the third, then loses 6 games in a row to lose the match.
