Title: Is Serena ready for Nicole?

SerenaW19 - January 23, 2007 09:12 PM (GMT)
I say yes. She had a tough quarter final that should hopefully have knocked her into form.

She will hopefully come out of the blocks firing and stands every chance in this match :D

I hope her forehand doesn't break down again though  Her serve is at least as good Nicole's and her movement is far better.

Go Serena :yahoo:

Serve is far better SW19, such a fluid action, then Vaidisova's clunky action, although she has been serving well throughout this tourny. Every chance Serena gets she'll have to pounce, just hit continuously to the Nicole backhand, which can look so mediocre at times, hardly any substantial technique at all. Serena is the better mover as well, so could frustrate the Czech into error. It'll be tough anyways, but i hope Serena will find a way!

Go Serena! :yahoo:

SerenaW19 - January 23, 2007 09:20 PM (GMT)
You've just gotta hope Serena can pull it out

Lets hope she hits under 40 UEs off the forehand this time

liam_valid - January 23, 2007 09:24 PM (GMT)
I dont think it matters. I reckon Vaidisova will take an early lead but she will bottle it

ObL!v!0N - January 23, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
I think Vaidiosva will win in 2, 7-5 6-4 ;)

Federer-Williams - January 23, 2007 09:26 PM (GMT)
I reckon Serena will play better than the QF. Not perfect but much more solid. Vaidasova may be a little daunted and her movement is really nothing close to Peer's. Serena should focus on that loopy backhand and moving Vaidasova around, maybe in to net.

Should the question not be is Vaidisova ready for Serena?

But this has the potential to be a superb match!

Still better than Nicole, and she's not completely ineffectual at net SW19

certainly at least, serena shuld draw Nicole into the net, and cut her off with the pass........

didnt she have 10/12 net points won yesterday?

maybe but Nicole is just as likely to do the same to Serena  Serena can hit some brilliant winners from the net, but in her current form I can only see disasters

I still think the key is for Serena to beat Nicole at her own game, out blast her with winners from the back of the court and hold more securely than her :D

Its a Williams trademark, Serena has had to hold up the fort while the best drive-volleyer in venus is injured ;)

Yes I must admit the Venus drive volley is simply in a league of its own :D

roflmao

Justine- Backhand
Maria- Backhand
Mauresmo- Backhand
Sveta- Forehand
Kim- Forehand( only on a good day though, is horrific usually however)
Elena- Forehand
Hingis- Backhand
Schnyder- Forehand
Safina- Backhand

They're some exceptions, but yes mostly backhands are very 'in' roflmao

SerenaW19 - January 23, 2007 09:46 PM (GMT)
Do you think Nicole's best shot is her serve or forehand?

But as we mention it Serena could come into net a few times to finish off points - not like loadds.

Serve- wont break down as much as the forehand might. Vaidisova's groundstrokes are very awkwardly produced, but the serve is very free-flowing, especially now with the abrieviated action.......

Yes the serve. Basically goes like this:

Attack backhand and movement.
Damage limitation from the serve and avoid the forehand.

Keep forehand consistent.
Keep footwork consistent.
Keep serve consistent (but she's doing this already).

Serena stands a realistic chance because she wont be getting that Sanchez tennis she got from Shahar.Nicole will provide her with the pace that she loves and it should be a close encounter. If she starts like she did against Jankovic she will win this in 2 tight sets. But if she is full of errors then its going to be a 3 set battle that might have Nicole edging here if not thrashing her in straights!

Well you guys know who Im going for!!!!!!!!
