Title: Hingis won't win another major
Description: i hope i'm wrong, but i doubt it.
BIG-TODGER - January 22, 2007 10:22 PM (GMT)
When Hingis burst on to the tennis scene she quickly rose to the top of the game. This was in part because the like of Graf, Seles and Sanchez Vicario were well past there best and players like the Williams sisters, Davernport, and capriati hadn't become the forces they would become-there was a space at the top of the game and she filled it. As time progressed the game moved on and power players began to tame her delicate, beautiful game-then with an injury she retired, knowing the writing was on the wall.
Since Hingis came back a year ago, she's had the same problems she had prior to her retirement-namely the power game. Yes she's in the top ten, Yes she occasionally gets the better of one of the big hitters, but as she gets to the later stages of slams she doesn't have what it takes to beat two or three in a row, she's at there mercy and if she doesn't know it yet she soon will.
it's a shame her slam triumphs are in the past, she plays the kind of game that watching tennis is about.
In an ideal world we'd have power players and style players, baseliners and serve-volley players, sharing the limelight, but the game has moved on and we don't live in an ideal world.

Well you never know, and far stranger things have happened :)

*steps up onto the martina soapbox and clears throat...*
'at the end of the day, hingis wanted to play professional tennis again. and the game is better for it. i've enjoyed (almost) everday that martina has been back on tour. she has nothing to prove and i for will support her at every match she plays. no she's not no. 1 anymore, but that's not the point...unless that was big-todger's point.'

i agree with you she adds style and zing to the game, my only point was she simply in no better position to win one now than when she retired and that's important to her too.
Ultimately as much as you and i love her and her game she won't stay around for too long if she isn't a contender for the slams-and as much as i hope i'm wrong on this, she isn't.

She isn't one of the top favourites.
But she's always a contender :)
I actually think that Martina will do better at the FO from now on, as opposed to the Aussie.

I always want it to snow and Christmas but it doesn't, i want to win the lottery but i never will, and i hope she'll win a slam, but she won't!
SerenaW19 - January 22, 2007 10:58 PM (GMT)
Well either of those things could happen, my point is you'll never know if it will until it does.

yes, let the results speak for themselves. and as such, you are right...for now ;)
