Title: Worse Tennis Dads
liam_valid - January 22, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
Christophe Fauviau, is probably the most extreme tennis dad after poisoning his daughters rivals so she could win. Jim Pierce once shouted out in a match "Mary kill the bitch" and has been reported as being verbally and phsyically abusive to her when she has been beaten. He was chucked out of RG 1993 after punching a spectator. He even has his own rule, the 'Jim Pierce Rule' which prohibits abusive conduct on the part of players, coaches, and relatives. I am picking Jim Pierce for the fact he actually physically abused Mary when she was beaten. No wonder she was inconsistant with her results
The Dav - January 22, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
Damir, by far...
I don't think Richard is a bad tennis dad, sure he may be a bit OTT, but he's very good to the girls :)
SerenaW19 - January 22, 2007 07:41 PM (GMT)
Damir may have kidnapped his daughter but I voted for Sharapov as he really annoys me!

Great minds think alike! roflmao
liam_valid - January 22, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
But Marys dad used to hit her if she got beat :yikes: Surely Yuri is not that bad
timmadigan - January 22, 2007 07:53 PM (GMT)
you can't really count Christophe - he's just the insane extreme but a one-time shot.
Richard and Yuri are just high-pressure guys and try to "help" their daughters but don't really count as "bad", just excessive.
Jim Pierce, if the allegations are true, belongs in jail but Mary seems to have overcome his actions over time.
I feel that Damir did the worst damage to his daughter's career with his antics. The kidnapping, getting banned from tournaments (and countries) and such has destroyed his daughter. If she does show the ability to recover over time, I'd move Jim above him as "Worst Tennis Dad" but as of today, I voted for Damir.
Murraynator - January 22, 2007 07:55 PM (GMT)
my knowledge is not huge on the players dad coaches but i chose damir dokic because i remember reading some rather bad stories about him in the past.

I was reading a match report on the BBC that said that if Maria lost then he would probably shoot her roflmao
So maybe he's worse
SuperBRAT - January 22, 2007 08:36 PM (GMT)
I don't know enough to pick really, but they certainyl sound like a right bunch of b8stards if you ask me. How come the worst dads always seem to be those of female players? That does concern me.
Karatancheva's dad cant; be up to much after what happened to that poor girl, and I dont; think Steffi's dad was so great was he. Didn't he get her into trouble over the taxes?
dl04 - January 22, 2007 08:39 PM (GMT)
Damir actually scares me with the things he comes out with sometimes
Richard is a great tennis dad, has been both sisters support all the way through their careers. The same with theirmum Oracene :D
Jim Pierce- what a nasty piece of work
Also Mirjana Lucic's dad. He really did knock her about :(
felixsanchez - January 22, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
Can you imagine yuri if it was a Serena V Maria Final?
He would be the physco Dad from hell!
And richard would be sitting there smiling :D
liam_valid - January 22, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
Yes, i put Richard on the list due to his reputation as a fierce supporter than anything and Yuri due to coaching allegations. I really didn't think either of them would get any votes, but it seems some people on here thing it is more despicable to give your daughter a few nods during matches than it is to beat them up or poison the rivals :yikes: :yikes:

Well Richard isnt there, despite Serena's pleas:
' Hey dad, call me '
roflmao
It'll be Oracene sitting there, cool and collected :D
Always used to make me laugh when Serena played Hingis, and melanie Molitor used to sit there a bag of nerves, and Oracene as casual as you like

God, you've gotta love the William's Parents!
The Dav - January 22, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
I don't think I've ever seen Oracene get very emotional, she's a cool customer, she's very fair though, and always applauds great shots from the opponent :)

Oracene is so blunt as well. After Serena lost to Capriati, she said something like ' Serena played awful ' or words to that effect

You can tell where Venus's coolness comes from :D
And Serena's crazyness from Richard roflmao
Nick Havoc - January 22, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't call Richard a "great" tennis dad, as he was a bit too outspoken at times and his antics led to some of the negative public reaction toward the Williams girls. But, he was definitely a big supporter of them, and I surely don't think he deserves a Worst Tennis Dad title.

Nick Havoc - January 22, 2007 09:02 PM (GMT)
I voted for Damir, though it's a tough call. Fauviau was probably worse than any of them for what he did, but I guess, because I tend to think of the question more in terms of parents of the high-profile professional players.

Yes hopefully :D I think seeing Serena coming back and winning the AO in 2005 sort of inspired Venus to play better, and she did beating Serena twice that year and winning Wimbledon. So fingers crossed for both :D

On Mr Williams -
I know he isn't beating his daughters or poisoning their opponents but there is something seriously noo right with that man. He admits to as good as 'breeding' kids to be tennis players, and he decided their future before they were born. They were then trained up for years under his strict regime. I dont; know about their childhood but have questions about it. Like were they willing to train and is tennis what both wanted? And how did he treat them? He seems like a control freak to me and whilst they might thank him now they are rich and famous, they might not have thanked him had they nto been so sucessful. It's not right to force your kids in the direction you desire and not let them explore other options in life. So many people screw up their kids by forcing them to live for their dreams rather than finding their own ways in life. I be there are an awful lot of failed players out there who feel very bitter about their parents. I suppose also it's hard as you have to start training as a very young minor so your parents are going to be key in your sucess, and with sport being so competitive and ruthless, it takes the wrong type of parent to get the right result. I'm not a fan of Mr Williams at all, when he has visted Wimbers he acted like he owns the place.

Richard has always placed education ahead of tennis, both of them went through college, Venus has a degree in design and business, she has her own company now, and Serena has her own clothing line, so I think his priorities were right, they both idolize him too, so no problems their end  Yes, he's can be annoying and arrogant, but he made his daughters millionaires, look at the area they came from, he turned them into to superstars...
Also, he never beat them or kidnapped them, so I can't see how he's the worst :P

Oh no, i never said he was the worst so retract that :P you swine! roflmao
I just asked questions about what he was like. Sure they have done well of course but there are plenty of sucessful but unhappy people out there who were pushed by their parents from a young age. Wouldn't have helped me as I was a rebel! roflmao My parents said they did not want me to go to college, so I went. I hated it and they told me to stay so I left! Then they told me to get a job so i went back to college! roflmao They told me they did not want me to leav ehome, so I left. And they told me not to go to uni so I did! roflmao I did okay though. My parents did me a favour because they hated academia and yet drove me to it. Glad I never took the job my mum got me in the factory, or that one at the bank that she filled in the damned application for! :D I still fidn it creepy that a man plans to make hsi duaghters into tennsi players BEFORE he has even had any. I hope he did not make his wife keep havign kids until they got there. :yikes:
