Title: Video Editing
Description: Tips Requested

I have a short DVD video that I want to pick a few scenes out of to edit into an even shorter video. Anyone have tips on how to do this? I may need some additional software. The only relevent programs I have on my home computer are Window Movie Maker and the software that came with my DVD burner (Sonic MyDVD).
There are several different files on the DVD itself, and I can't remember all the file extensions. I think the video part is .vob files and there are separate audio files Anybody done this kind of thing and have suggestions? I could probably do it by playing the DVD on a separate DVD player and capturing the signal onto my computer as an mpg file, then editing that, but I'm afraid I'll lose a lot of video quality in that transition.

Don't worry about the seperate audio files, its just the video you need to concentrate on. You basically need a Video converter that will convert .vob files into something that Windows Movie Maker will read, AVI MPEG WMV etc.
How illegal are you with your downloading Nick??

I try to keep it legal. :halo:
I don't mind paying a few dollars for some software, though. If it's upwards of $100 or so, though, I'm not sure I'd use it enough for it to be worth the money.

What file format do you want the resulting files to be in?
You can get programs that will cut up vob files. One being TMPGenc MPEG Editor.

Just looking at that site, actually. I couldn't get to it from work.
Have you used that software before?

OK, so . . . I edited my video and cut it down to a 2 1/2 minute WMV file. This is for something meant to be projected on the screen at church during part of the service. The problem now is, the PC there is not hooked to the internet, and the video will not play on that computer. I suspect I just need to update the version of RealPlayer that's on that computer (or get another video player), but I'm not sure how to do that without an internet connection.
Can I just copy the Realplayer files from my computer and dump them on another one?

Or you could convert the file into something that will play on the other PC. (Avi for example)
