Title: River of Sludge in my village!
trisco - January 22, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, check these pics out, I rushed home from work after reading the first bit of news on the BBC website to make sure my house is ok. Luckily they managed to divert it about 3 doors away from mine... phew! Not beofre it had gone through the whole village though. The road is closed as they think this dam could burst again. :yikes:
The village is pretty messed up right now. These are pics of my street and the village.

Pretty bad sludge Liam, it was a big sludge river running through the village which has now just caked everything in its path!
The village is closed to all traffic and pretty hard to walk round!
I left the local pub early as the Landlady was doing a live interview for the BEEB for the news. I didn't wanna be shown boozin on live tv covered in mud. One has to look classy. lol.

Sorry to here about that, though. I'm sure it will be quite the clean-up effort.

I saw this on the local news Trisco, I never realised you lived in Derbyshire, just up the road from me really, well 25 miles up the road but it only takes 25 mins on the train :P
Thats pretty mad how a river of sludge just swept through your town, any idea how it happened? I know we have had loads of rain over the past few weeks but for the past 2-3 days it has been dry so im not sure how it burst its banks.

You were really lucky, trisco, nothing worse than having your house full of mud. It will take a helluva time to clear it all up, as well. Super village street, too, at least pre-river-of-sludge, it was.

Sorry to hear about this but glad you house was Ok. A narrow escape eh? :yikes: We nearly moved to a house by the local lake a while ago. Glad I didn't as it and the neighbour got flooded and it cost a small fortune to put the damsge right so I heard.
