It was very far from an annhilation actually, one of those matches that could've gone either way.

Hingis evened things up at 4 all but then got broken and now Li will serve for the set :(

Well Martina is staying with Li (just held serve to edge ahead), but she'll need a minor miracle to win today. Li is just frighteningly consistent from the back of the court today and serving so well. She would trouble any of the top seeds. Don't forget she nearly took a set of Clijsters at Wimbledon and she's come on in leaps and bounds since then.

No worries, in all fairness I didn't have a clue what the score of the Safina vs Hingis match was, I just thought it was an annihilation for some reason.

If Hingis wins this set she'll probably win the match; from my limited knowledge of women's tennis it's all about momentum, and in a 3 set match it's most often the winner of the 2nd set who goes on to victory.

Ooh, and as I speak Hingis breaks for a 4-2 lead.

Yes it is about momentum a lot of the time. Hingis really needs to hold serve though and she is struggling :unsure:

tbh this match is very ugly to watch. Hingis's fate depends on the errors from Li. Was hoping that it'll end in two so the Blake match would start early but it doesn't seem to be.

Another one of my predictions going down the drain. Incredibly frustrating to watch, this is all about Li. Against Safina all her unforced errors in this match would have been winners. Who's your money on between Blake and Gonzo chet?
