Title: Federer v Robredo
chetanpv - January 21, 2007 11:06 AM (GMT)
Was praying to God 20 times a day that this flop show does not materialize but it has. The last tripple bagel I remember was Bruguera beating a french guy in the 93 RG. The next one happens tomorrow.

Chet, you should slow down a bit: come on Robredo played well against Gasquet. :P
He was able to show in particular that he is well prepare physically( this is not the case of Gasquet: I had the feeling that Richard was tired :yikes: even during the first set).
So, OK, I do not believe he has the weapons to trouble FED but I am quite sure he has enough Tennis to stay there and fight: Come on this guy is a sort of "Davy No2": He is able to do everything but in particular to play very well physical long rallies..After you can like or not : This is purely a question of taste.

Is this yet another thread that Chet has started about the mighty Fed?!
Yes, Robredo beating Gasquet was a bit of surprise, but really some of you guys hype up the younger players a bit too much. Gasquet is fine talent, but as TV points out perhaps does not yet have the physical strength to manage 7 best of 5 matches in a slam. I would add to that the issue of Gasquet being strong enough mentally as well. Both are needed for him to be more consistent. Time is on his side to enable him to develop this, of course.
But anyway.. Federer v Robredo it is.. Fed should win, but he never underestimates his opponents.. :)

Robredo beating Gasquet = terrible result for tennis. Now I'm off to do something to make me completely forget that even happened.

Gasquet had 21 break points against his serve in the match, of which Robredo converted only 4.. :yikes:
Wise, you might have him as the next Sampras, but psychologically Gasquet is nowhere near right now.. He has a looonnng way to go in that respect. ;)

I'd write a strongly worded letter of complaint to Gasquet if i were you Wise! Explain the situation, and ask him if he could manage not to lose next time! That'll probably work.....

roflmao roflmao roflmao Wise you are so funny... roflmao roflmao
petalp raised the right point: I was following the two first sets of this match and to be honest there were IMO two major failures on Gasquet game:
A. Physical preparation: Robredo's Tennis is certainly quite "simple" (or basic)-without great inventions- but he wants and waits for having long rallies (he is solid on that side he is doing few unforced errors), i.e. this guy has an excellent court coverage and he is consistent...If you want to stay with him you need to be fit and Gasquet was not :yikes: : Even during the first set he was looking tired after each "one" rally..
B: Gasquet maturity: He was not focused on the game and the Robredo's Tennis, i.e. this guy like ask for long rallies. He accepted that, he was there playing those rallies instead of short them.. :yikes: AAAAAAHHHHH :yikes: ..He started to change his strategy only on the third coming more often at the net to short the point. Why waiting so long? who knows???
Conclusion: I really hope (I like so much his BH) that this defeat is not the beginning of the french's syndrome, i.e. in short French Media telling the player that he is the new GOD => Player not performing as expected => media searching desperately the source of the problem => Asking 10000000000 to the player when a "big result" in particular at RG => the player becoming more and more nervous and under pressure...Terrible..Nightmare

I'm thinking my lawyer's gonna be the only one sending letters... informing Gasquet of my decision to sue him for bringing tennis into disrepute  I'm still utterly fuming. Tommy Robredo... for F*CK's sake
Like I said before, I attribute a lot of Gasquet's temperamental flaws to his nationality and culture. French sportsmen have always been flamboyant yet flaky. Having said that, Federer wasn't that far ahead of Gasquet at the same age, but obviously he had a couple of very significant results that the Frenchman's yet to achieve.
If Gasquet can eventually overcome all this and win a Slam, the question is, will he gain confidence and go on to win considerably more? I believe he would; sadly it looks like his maiden Slam is a very long way off indeed.
N.B: TV, your analysis is spot-on and much wiser than mine ;)2 I'm too angry to make any good observations right now

Hi Wise  : I hope you know that Gasquet is leaving (for fiscal reasons ) in Switzerland...Why not sending a letter by asking him becoming Swiss?? I see several advantages:
A. A monstrous Davis Coup Team with FED
B. No Media around (they are by default very discrete in Switzerland)
C. A great physical trainer, i.e. Paganini the same of FED..
Thanks if you can post your letter ASAP: I definitely prefer having a Gasquet Swiss tomorrow than a Wawrinka toady.. roflmao roflmao

I'm with you on this, but I'm not sure if our interpretations of 'monstrous' are the same. ;)2
I say this half jestingly, but next time Gasquet plays at the French, he should deliberately play appalingly and lose in the first round. When the crowd get on his back, 'Putain, fermez vos bouches, conts' etc... Then they won't hype him up quite so much!
Btw TV - that thing about liking Doctors: is that anything to do with Dr_Sincere? I see you've been having your usual amicable conversations with the good Dr on another board :D
