Title: Fed v Djokovic
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 08:33 AM (GMT)
It's been quite a crazy day at the AO, it seems ... although mainly on the women's side.
Let's hope Fed can restore the seeds' honor, and go through convincingly ...
Go Roger! :bigwave:
Ace - January 21, 2007 08:45 AM (GMT)
I thinkg Rog will take this in 3 straight.
He takes the first game !.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 08:48 AM (GMT)
Some sweet volleys there from the Maestro, as he holds in the first game.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 08:50 AM (GMT)
Nice passing shot from Rog there, to go up 15-30 on Novak's serve.
Next point to Djokovic, though. 30-30.
Novak can't get a backhand over the net, break point!
Ace - January 21, 2007 08:53 AM (GMT)
1 game a piece now as djokojic manages to hold :)
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 08:55 AM (GMT)
Djokovic finally holds.
Some good play from both players, but also some less stunning tennis from both. (Djokovic already had a double fault :yikes:.)
Fed still needs to warm up a bit, I reckon.
1-1.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 08:58 AM (GMT)
Fed holds, but has to go via deuce. 2-1 Fed.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:04 AM (GMT)
Fed goes ahead 0-30 on Djoko's serve, but has to go to deuce to win a break point, which he takes when Novak messes up a drop-shot completely.
Fed leads 3-1 :yahoo: :bigwave:
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:08 AM (GMT)
Novak has a whiff of a chance, as he goes up 0-30 on Roger's serve, but doesn't win another fight.
It looks to me as though Fed is starting to really get in the groove now; what do you reckon?
4-1 to Roger.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:11 AM (GMT)
Novak holds. 4-2 to Roger.
Ace - January 21, 2007 09:11 AM (GMT)
Rog leads 4-2.
This match is as good as over imo.
Fed is playing well.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:16 AM (GMT)
Federer holds for 5-2.
Is it me, or is his backhand a little bit less consistent than it was at the end of last year? Mind you, he's still playing well; there are just a few more shots he's missed on it than I would have thought.

I agree. Novak hasn't been playing badly, but whenever he's managed to put Roger under pressure, Roger just upped the game a bit.
I could still Novak stealing a set from Roger if the circumstances are right (i.e., if Roger loses concentration a bit, as he sometimes does e.g. in the third), but it doesn't look likely.
Roger had set point on Djokovic's serve there, but Novak saves with an ace.
Ace - January 21, 2007 09:20 AM (GMT)
I agree its always possible.
But Fed is so good and from the past matches I just cant see him slipping up here.
Fed leads 5-2 B)
Set point again!.......but is saved
Ace - January 21, 2007 09:23 AM (GMT)
The maestro takes the set comfortably 6-2!!!!!!!!!!
Really who can stop this man from defending his title I wonder

:bigwave: Roger :bigwave:
Roddick and Nadal might have a chance if they get through; we'll see.
Robredo just won against the much-touted Gasquet, in four sets.
I'm not a big fan of Robredo's game, but he's been doing extremely well recently. Still, I really don't see him having the weapons to give Roger trouble.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:27 AM (GMT)
Solid start to the second set from Fed, as he holds to 15. 1-0.
Ace - January 21, 2007 09:28 AM (GMT)
Well Roddick has playing well so he has a much better chance than before thats for sure and Rafa has shown he can beat Fed.
But still the way Fed is playing I'd bet on him to win this anyday.
At least if those guys play good we can at least expect some good matches :)
Ace - January 21, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
Fed breaks to go 2-0 up!
This man is on fire!Just beautiful stuff lol
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:32 AM (GMT)
Djokovic looks set for a comfortable hold at 40-15. However, he doesn't win another point, as Fed breaks for a 2-0 lead!

Fed Leads 3-0.
I can't believe there were people who were thinking Djokovi could take out Fed.... :yikes:

I know ... didn't make sense to me, either.
Excellent game here. Djokovic holds for 3-1.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:42 AM (GMT)
Superb hold to love from Federer. He's really on fire now.
I said before that I thought Youzhny was likely to win more games against Fed than Djokovic. So far, that prediction looks on.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:44 AM (GMT)
Love hold from Djokovic. Might give him more energy to attack Fed now.
However, so far the set looks like it might be going the same way as the first.
Ace - January 21, 2007 09:46 AM (GMT)
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Djokovic broke Fed.

As soon as I say this, Fed goes off the boil a bit. Djokovic earns a break point, and Fed misses a smash to let him back into the match.
Somehow I think that's just going to make Roger mad though. Wouldn't be surprised if he wins the next two games and takes the set.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:51 AM (GMT)
Good hold from Djokovic after being down 0-30.
He pulls even for the first time in the second set, for 4-4. Fed to serve.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 09:54 AM (GMT)
As he loses the first point, Fed has a mean look in his face.
And he holds to fifteen. 5-4 Roger. Djokovic to serve to stay in the set.
I suspect Fed will break here.

But I was wrong. Good serving from Djokovic, and not enough of the magic from Federer. 5-5.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 10:01 AM (GMT)
6-5 Federer. Another chance to break and avoid the tie-break.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 10:05 AM (GMT)
Federer wastes his second challenge on a forehand that was clearly out. Djokovic looks like he's going to have an easy hold as he goes up 40-15.
But Fed pulls it up to deuce, and wins set point despite a challenge from Djokovic!
And Roger takes the set!
:bigwave: :yahoo: :yahoo: :bigwave:
Roger 6-2 7-5 Novak
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 10:19 AM (GMT)
Fed gets two break points on Djokovic's serve, and converts the first!
Fed leads 3-1!
:bigwave:
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 10:22 AM (GMT)
Fed 4 - 1 Djoke
in the 3rd.
Same score as we had in the second, but somehow I don't think Novak is going to break back this time. Think this one might end 6-2, like the first.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 10:25 AM (GMT)
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 10:29 AM (GMT)
Yet again, Fed misses a smash in the seventh game of the set, giving Djokovic the second break point of the match. :yikes:
But Roger comes up with a good second serve to save it, and doesn't repeat his blip of the last set to hold with an ace.
Fed 6 - 2 Djok
Novak to try and stay in the match. Watch Roger pounce now.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 10:33 AM (GMT)
Good hold by Djokovic as Roger sends a backhand long.
5-3; Fed to serve for the match.
mightyjeditribble - January 21, 2007 10:37 AM (GMT)
And Fed takes the match in style, to love and with an ace.
:bigwave: :yahoo: Roger :yahoo: :bigwave:
My prediction came true: Novak won 9 games off Roger, while Youzhny won 12.
Still, I was impressed by his game; he played well against Roger today.
chetanpv - January 21, 2007 10:42 AM (GMT)
Unfortunately the much anticipated Federer-Gasquet is not going to happen.
The showdown between Federer-Roddick would be awesome.

Its me. ;)
Looks like Fed played extremely well . I only saw the end of it and there was some hard hitting from both players.
