Title: Serena Withdraws from wimbledon

Mkkreuk - May 26, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
From te Beeb:

Serena Williams, 24, has withdrawn from this year's Wimbledon because of an on-going knee problem but insists she is not thinking about retiring yet.

Williams, who won Wimbledon in 2002 and 2003, has not played since her third-round loss to Daniela Hantuchova at the Australian Open in January.

"I want everyone to know that I will be back. I'm more excited than ever to resume when my body's ready," she said.

"These past months have been very frustrating for me personally."

Why the ' :o ' Mkk? She announced this when she pulled out of RG, still sucks though, I want to see her play Hingis, and both her and Venus playing regularly again, it's not right without both of them playing...

I know, she hasn't missed a Wimbledon since '98 I don't think, and that's incredible for someone so injury prone, still, she does seem intent on getting back, which is good...

Yeah she hasnt missed a Wimbledon since 99 when she pulled out with illness and then won the US 2 months later. I knew this was coming but its still sad. Before the Williamses retire, i want to see at least one more sister-slam final. I have missed those sorely.....

Wish Serena the best at getting over her injuries and hopefully will have sucess on her return to the tour after this extensive rehab.

Hey dl, looks like it's up to Venus to ensure a Williams is in the Wimbledon final for the 7th year in a row...

Sadly this is not a suprise. I think it's time for her to retire or just announce a withdrawl for a year to get back into playing form without injuries. This tourney by tourney bit isn't good.

I have to agree, but i hope she comes back as she is an awesome player, and not too bad on the eyes.

*awaits mountain of complaints!*

To be fair, it won't stop me from winning Wimbledon.
